| | Are you a keen singer, preferably with some experience? Would you like to sing with one of the premier small choirs in the Midlands? Are you up for intensive yet fun rehearsals leading to the thrill of high-level performance? Are you free on Thursday evenings to work hard and meet other people who love music? If so, make a date in your diary for September 26th!
We are the Keele Bach Choir and we are looking for enthusiastic new singers – especially sopranos and tenors - preferably with at least reasonable sight reading ability. Young people are especially welcome..
New kid on the block We have been going since 1975 and are entering a new phase with strengthened ties to Keele University itself and a new artistic director – Matthew Willis (pictured above).
25 year-old Matthew has been involved with music in Keele since 1997 when, at the age of 20, he conducted the choir in a highly acclaimed performance of Handel’s Messiah at St. John’ s, Smith Square, in London. He is also artistic director of the Keele Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir (KPOC).
Repertoire Music performed by the choir is very varied - ancient and modern, sacred and secular. Our programme for the year is vibrant and ambitious - our first performance will be on Saturday December 7th and will feature works by Palestrina, Respighi, Charpentier and Poulenc – please come back and check the listing pages for details.
Later in the season we will be singing Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony, among other pieces.
Your Bach choir needs you We will be rehearsing on Thursday evenings in term-time, usually in Keele University Chapel, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. (All music can be borrowed.) Please come along and meet our new director, Matthew Willis, and the choir, at our first rehearsal on September 26th at 6.15pm.
Contacts If you need any further information or directions to Keele University Chapel, please contact Sarah Graham on 01785 281011 or via [email protected]. | | | |
