Who Lives in this Vicarage?
Vicarage?
Who lived in this house?
'Postcard Puzzle from the Past' is a feature on Barbara Adams' afternoon show on BBC Radio Stoke.

She wants your help, stories, tips and suggestions in trying to identify the scenes on them.

Have your say
The postcards Barbara receives show a variety of local scenes which unfortunately don't carry titles or descriptions ... and this is where you come in.

This mysterious house
The picture above is the 3rd postcard from the Arthur Peach collection and perhaps the most enigmatic.
Arthur thinks it's a local Vicarage. It looks to be late Victorian or early Edwardian.

Maid in vicarageTake a look at the maid in the upper window (pictured right); was she related to you?
Or do you perhaps know someone who could tell us more about who she was? What type of maid was she - what might have been her responsibilities and duties? And would she have lived in the house - or locally?

Man in vicarageThe man with the dog may be possibly a groundsman or gardener, or maybe just works on the estate in some capacity.

On the other hand, you might think he is dressed too smartly for any of the above. You may think he is a professional person, the vicar himself, or just the head of the house (after all, we can't be sure it is definitely a vicarage!)

Woman in vicarageDressed in her Summer white, the final shot looks like it is a picture of the wonderful lady of the house. But is it?

Maybe she is merely a visitor to the house - a relation or friend of the family. Or even the vicar's daughter! We need your help.

If it is a vicarage, which one is it? Arthur believes it may be Rode vicarage in South Cheshire. But maybe he is wrong and if you know better, let us know. After all, maybe it's not even standing anymore.

Old dairy farm?
Hi, I not to sure if 'your' photo was taken in the location that I thinking of but it looks very much like 'the old dairy farm' (long since demolished) standing next to what is now Blithfield Reservoir, in the former grounds of Bilthfield Hall, Admaston, nr Rugeley, home of the Baggotts family.... although this may not be the same photo, it is a good resemblance.
I live in Alberta, Canada, formally of the Rugeley area, may I wish you 'good hunting' with your photos.
Nigel Knight
