| | In a year that Britain's Olympic gold medal heroes dominated the New Year's Honours list, Staffordshire's Paralympic gold medalist Lee Pearson has further cause for celebration after being awarded an OBE.
While Kelly Holmes and Tanni Grey Thompson were made dames and Matthew Pinsent knighted, Lee Pearson from Leek was honoured in recognition of his monumental equestrian success and services to sport for the disabled.
Triple success
It's been a great year for Pearson who became one of the all-time equestrian greats with stunning displays at the 2004 Paralympics where he bagged three gold medals.
Following his performances at the Paralympics, Lee also walked away with the Midlands Sports Personality of the Year award for 2004.
And this award has rounded off the year with a hat-trick of successes for Lee.
An OBE is also going to Neil Carr from the South Staffordshire Health Care NHS Trust for services to nursing.
First Response
 | Rosemary Walley (Nee Thayne) celebrated the award of an MBE for her work in establishing the Community First Response scheme.
The scheme uses volunteers in rural locations to ‘first respond’ whilst the ambulance service response is en route.
Rosemary, who grew up in Talke Pits, North Staffordshire is the sister of Roger Thayne, the Chief Executive of Staffordshire Ambulance Service.
