Have your say
On Friday 16th May, BBC Radio Stoke will be working with local musicians to celebrate the diverse mixture of music currently played in and around Staffordshire.

Local artists are coming together for a one day event held at The New Vic Theatre to play and exchange musical influences.

Mohammed Munir
Not only with each other, but also with musicians from across the world as we're hoping to link live to a Brazilian Samba band in Sao Paulo and to Mohammed Munir (pictured right), a famous Iraqi musician currently in Cairo.

The musicians chosen reflect local musical traditions and also those of other cultures who now form part of the local community.

National campaign
It's all part of the national World On Your Street campaign organised by BBC Radio 3.

World on your Street is a project to discover world music on our own doorstep.

On the day there will be Zimbabwe choral singers, Kurdish musicians, traditional Staffordshire folk, Brazilian and African drumming and Irish music - all broadcast live on BBC Radio Stoke.

Workshops
There will also be workshops running throughout the day for invited groups.

Tune in to BBC Radio Stoke on Friday 16th May to experience music like you've never heard before!

The universal language of music has the ability to transcend normal social and cultural barriers and World On Your Street and other initiatives in the area are encouraging people to play together and take pride in the rich and diverse music scene locally.

Join our challenge to uncover living musical traditions within Staffordshire. Share the tunes you love, and explore music that's less familiar.
