Now, if you thought line dancing was all yee-haa! and cowboy hats - then how wrong you are!

Stoke-on-Trent's Jenny Stephenson has just returned from the United States where she was named the best female line dancer in the world.

That's right, Jenny beat the Yanks at their own game and is now ranked as the number one female in the world.

Jenny, who's 21, owns a dance studio in the Potteries. There are now plans to set up an international line dancing federation here in north Staffordshire.

She puts her success down to hard work as she has danced since she was seven and practices every single day.

Her winning routine took several months to put together.

Jenny insists the traditional view that line dancing is unglamorous and just for country fanatics is wide of the mark.

"It's changed over the last five years. You still have to wear the cowboy boots - that's the rule - but it's very different from what people think."

Actually, line dancing is more akin to the glitz of ice and ballroom dancing. In fact, appearance is very important as contestants need to be dressed sharply to impress the judges.

Jenny is already planning to return to Nashville next year to defend her title.
