| | How much should we know about Human Rights? How do they affect us personally, in our own society and the world around us? What happens when they are denied and at what age do we need to become concerned about them?
In a national and international arena of growing concern over Human Rights, it is important to raise awareness and understanding as to what exactly these are, their importance, what forms they may take, how they affect our lives and what happens when they are denied.
For example, do people fleeing oppression in their own countries have the "right" to ask for asylum in this country? Difficult questions.
The course At level one, the course will address such basic issues as: whether there is a right not to be bullied, harassment in its many forms, the right to life and to die with dignity, the rights of children and those of the elderly, violence and fair treatment and other relevant issues.
Together with this I hope will be the opportunity for identifying and researching a Human Rights issue of personal interest to the student.
... and more At level two the course will expand to encompass Human Rights issues at an international level. The issues of fair trial, abuse, slavery and prostitution are just some of those which will be identified and discussed.
Details if you're interested in the course, the first part of which starts on January 28th, 2003, please contact me, Norma Shaw, on 01782 208208 ext 3294, or e-mail me.
Classes will take place both in the community at Willfield Community College in Bentilee, Stoke on Trent, and at Stoke on Trent College on Wednesday early-evenings. The second level of the course will commence in September 2003. |
