With the end of the 2004/05 season approaching and Crewe Alexandra staring relegation in the face, a few enthusiastic and optimistic supporters decided, in a fit of pique, to form the Crewe Alexandra Supporters’ initiative (Crewe ASi). We aimed, above all, to unite and galvanise support for the Alex, to act as a conduit between the fans and the club, and in turn increase the club’s revenue. We also looked to strengthen the bonds between the club and its supporters on the one hand and the local community on the other. We were clear that the link with the railways must be re-established, after all it's part of our heritage, and have done that by using an British Rail logo as the basis for our badge. SocialOne of our main aims is to provide a lively social life for our members and the ASi has organised a number of very successful social events including quiz nights, a race night and a family cricket day in Sandbach. Added to this was a football tournament at the Peacock and the launch night, with the NSS Band, all of which were extremely well received. Giving...We aim to give something back to the Community in which we live. We have already raised £500 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Leighton Hospital which was presented to Steve Jones and are in the process of raising money for Geoff Thomas’ Leukemia Research fundraising drive. With regard to trying to boost the club's revenue, we are pushing the Red Lion Club lottery and we paid for the supply and fit of a big screen in the Alexandra Suite to show televised matches before and after games. We aim to promote the Alex and all that the club and Dario stands for and on the 6th August, before the Burnley game, Bob Scott, Dario’s first captain at Gresty Road, was asked to present Dario with a crystal football to mark his 1,001st league game at the club. Raising awareness | | Crewe ASi work hard at the carnival |
In a drive to persuade more people to go to Gresty Road, we set up a stall at Queens Park for the Crewe Carnival and handed out thousands of fixture cards and Crewe ASi business cards. We have produced a string of merchandise, and the long awaited sequel to Marco’s ‘Crewe Alexandra – Match by Match’, published by Crewe ASi, which is now available from the club shop at the ground. Anyone who wants to know more about what we’re doing and why can find out by seeing the weblinks at the bottom of the page, or in the top right of the screen.
