Tim Craven makes waves on the comedy circuit

by Joe Dundas
Tim Craven has been on the comedy circuit since the beginning of 2005 but he’s already making waves all over the place...

Six essential things you should know about Tim Craven

  • He went to Manchester University.
  • He grew a Moustache to windup his mates but kept it.
  • He would most like to take Ann Widdecombe on a date.
  • He wants to name his first pet Neville.
  • He loves to play the Lottery.
  • He was head boy at Madeley High school.

Crack a Smile

I went along to the Limelight club in Crewe and Tim was the compere, but soon he became the late stand in with a 15 minute set… and what a stand in he was.

“There you go look at me, local profile already… head honcho”

Tim hails from the local town of Madeley in North Staffordshire but performs all over the place including some of the best clubs in the country. His first gig was at XS Malarky in Manchester back in January 2005 and ever since he’s been performing with some of the best and is making his name on the circuit. He was head boy at Madeley High School then he studied at Manchester University and worked on Fuse FM (Manchester Uni’s own radio station). Now he works in the exam office at Keele University which he himself says “Provides some good material”.

“What’s with that new one… Rita… who gonna ride a Rita?”

"Anne Widdecombe… I quite fancy her, nice bit of banter, candle lit meal, ply her with a bit of drink see where we are… bingo bango"
- Tim Craven

Still a boy of Staffordshire he is though. Due to the not so huge comedy churn out in the Stoke, he has the hopes of the city on his shoulders. When he was nominated for the “Comedy and Drama” award at the Radio 1 National Student Radio Awards Tim knew he had a talent and he has certainly exploited this great gift for the gab.

He always knew he wanted to have a crack at comedy and had scripts written, prepared and ready to go.

“… no relation to John Craven but I do like me news at a kid style intellect”

The gig I went along to was near his 70th and with new and old material in the gig it truly was a great gig along side Alan Carr’s practice Edinburgh Fringe show and the self styled “Lesbian Goth” Bethany.

“… if I won the lottery I’d open up my own comedy club… and have me on every night”

Rita... really?

Tim mixes his styles of current affair comedy with childish wit and really is a class act of comedy. He can stand on stage and entertain people with childish remarks and jokes that will entertain everybody then add some topical intellectual wit and still make the same people laugh.

" Do you like me moustache? I grew it to annoy my mates and they hate it that much... I'm keeping it!"

I personally thought Tim was a great performer and he really could go far in the industry. Tim himself says “I know when I’ve made it because I will be able make me Nan laugh at the same things I can make me little sister laugh at”

Never a truer word spoke… although there possibly is I thought I would add an ideological cliché… and some big words because it makes me look clever.
