Nick Southall watching TV

Nick catches up on the latest episode

Doctor Who - welcome back!

Ever since Nick Southall materialised on this earth, he has been a Doctor Who fan. So... how did he feel about the Doctor's return to our Time Dimension?

We’ve seen the end of the world, green aliens taking over Downing Street, and shop dummies springing to life. The doc has been back on our screens!

"Today’s youngsters should also have their chance to shout "ex..ster..minate!!!" in the playground"

Nick Southall

So much so that the weekly ritual of getting ready to go out on a Saturday night has been on hold for the last three months, as the haunting sound of the Tardis, and the doctor (with his ‘northern accent’) has kept us on the edge of our seats ... or behind the sofa!

Welcome back

As a long time fan of the show, hearing the news that it was coming back to our screens for the first time since Sylvester McCoy battled with the Master in 1989, was unforgettable.

But a lot of the credit must go to the mass of the fan clubs across the world who helped keep the programme alive.

Whereas some people may have seen the return of the doctor as a gamble, the series has undoubtedly been a big success.

Billie Piper

We’ve had all the elements of the old series, coupled with the use of today’s state of the art visual effects making this a make-over worth waiting for.

But ultimately the brilliant writing team of Russel T Davis, Mark Gattis, Steve Moffatt, Robert Shearman and Paul Cornell provided stories which were captivating, funny and something the whole family could enjoy.

The performances from Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper have been breath taking and the next doctor, David Tennant promises to be just as good.

What the dickens...

My personal highlight doesn’t come as a big surprise; the return of the Dalek!
It conjured up so many memories of my youth - and the moment when I saw the dalek climb the stairs in 'Remembrance of the Daleks'.

But... did my eyes deceive me? Did it have... pity? Surely not....?

The tin pepper-pots have struck fear into many generations, but it was only fair today’s youngsters should also have their chance to pretend to be a dalek and shout "ex..ster..minate!!!" in the playground.

Why is Who so Good?

I’ve heard this question asked so many times: what makes it so successful?
Well where do we start? The idea of travelling through time and space could be one reason.

But the programme also has the real power to keep surprising us.
My highlight of the series was ‘The Unquiet Dead’ by Mark Gattis. The final scene summed up Doctor Who for me, as Charles Dickens watched the Tardis dematerialise.

The show has excelled in the ratings; and now after a successful return to our screens, we’ll wait for a Christmas special, and then next year we can go through it all again - with a new 13 part adventure.

I thought Chris was great as the doctor with a fresh and "humanistic" approach which will be hard to follow. However i feel that David Tennant has what is needed to fill the shoes(and the clothes since he suddenly appeared in chris's outfit without any apparent change) I wish him Billie and the team the best of luck.

Joe T
I hope the new doctor hopefully is going to do as good a job as Chris Eccleston did in it. David Tennant is a good actor so I'm sure he will take on the job well.

Christopher Ecclestone has toppled Tom baker from my "Top Doctor" charts. My children are sick of me moaning about the fact he has left the programme !
