North Staffordshire Forum of Faiths (NSFoF) was officially launched on the 3rd February 2005 when over 400 people attended a celebration of Peace and Harmony for North Staffordshire at the Victoria Hall. Whilst NSFoF is a new body, it is built on a 15 year tradition of interfaith work throughout Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire. However the new body signifies the commitment and importance of faith communities and shows that their voice can be heard, and that their contribution is appreciated – especially within community relations and local policy making. Voluntary body NSFoF is a voluntary body, made up of like-minded individuals who belong to the various faith groups represented throughout North Staffordshire. It has a constitution and there isan open meeting every two months. It is managed by an executive committee and supported by a paid coordinator. Its work is concerned with fostering greater understanding between faith groups and working together for the good of the community. The Forum provides a hub, and a focal point for faith access and engagement. It provides opportunities for interfaith encounter and education and encourages inter-faith dialogue. The NSFoF is committed to the community cohesion agenda, and members of the Forum serve on local “strategic initiative” boards, local renewal initiatives and regeneration programmes. Resources The Forum acts as a resource centre for religious artefacts, books and training materials and can provide informed advice on matters of religion and culture. There is also a training provision; and local schools, organisations and community groups are invited make use of this service.
