Pollock leads Bears to victory

NUL: Division One, Trent Bridge: Warwickshire 236-8 beat Nottinghamshire 151 all out by 85 runs

South African Shaun Pollock shone with bat and ball as Warwickshire Bears stormed to an 85-run victory over Nottinghamshire Outlaws.

After making 70 in his side's excellent total of 236 for eight, Pollock went on to post figures of three for 12 as Warwickshire skittled the home side out for just 151.

Ashley Giles also claimed three wickets as the visitors used the Trent Bridge pitch to their own advantage in a display of patient and disciplined bowling.

Only Usman Afzaal made any impact for the home side but his battling innings of 51 was ended when he was clean bowled by veteran spinner Neil Smith.

Pollock's pace ensured Nottinghamshire's reply would get off to shocking start.

Welton failure

He removed Guy Welton with his fourth delivery of the day, trapping the opener leg before in his crease with a fuller-pitched delivery.

The all-rounder quickly then dismissed Darren Bicknell for 11, tempting him into an edge which provided a routine catch for wicketkeeper Tony Frost.

In between Neil Carter removed Nicky Boje for a fifth-ball duck, meaning the home side were rocking on 13 for three before they had really got going.

Giles needed just two balls to dismiss Paul Johnson for 11, fooling him with a straighter ball which saw him given out leg before.

He then picked up the last two wickets of the day as Somerset's tail-enders failed to cope with his clever variations of turn and pace.

Earlier in the piece, Pollock took a particular liking to the bowling of Andrew Harris and Nadeem Malik, crashing the former over long-off for six before repeating the shot with exactly the same result off Malik 10 overs later.

Together with Dominic Ostler, Pollock then put on 30 off 36 balls for the fourth wicket.

Earlier, opener Mike Powell had laid the foundations for Warwickshire before being run out for 39.
