Welsh pair on best form
Richard Vaughan is hot favourite
Llanbradach's Richard Vaughan is hot favourite
Welsh badminton duo Kelly Morgan and Richard Vaughan will be looking to retain their Welsh singles crowns at Afan Lido Leisure Centre, Port Talbot, on 2-3 February.

Commonwealth gold medallist Kelly Morgan has already claimed the women's singles title ten times on the trot and is now aiming to make it her 11th title.

The Tonteg shuttle ace hasn't dropped a point at these Championships for three years and is aiming to keep a clean sheet again this year.

"The record for ladies singles is held by Angela Dickson, who won it 16 times. I'm going for my 11th consecutive win this year and hopefully I can keep going to beat the record.

"It's always nice to come back and play a tournament at home and the Welsh Championship title is always special," said Morgan.

Good chance

The 23-year old Vaughan will be aiming to lift the men's singles title for the sixth year running.

To hold the men's singles record he must top Howard Jennings, a former Penarth Club player, who has won the title a total of seven times.

Vaughan will also be stepping out on court for the men's doubles with ex-Welsh international Dayle Blencowe.

He said, "I always look forward to the Welsh Nationals. It is always a good chance to see the younger players coming up through the ranks.

"The tournament moves round each year which means we can promote the sport right across Wales, so hopefully this year we can offer Port Talbot a little taster of the game."
