Neath miss out on victory

Sunday's Parker Pen Shield review

Bristol went top of pool five as they condemned Neath to their 15th away defeat in Europe.

The west country outfit led 10-3 at the interval, with all their points coming from fly-half Shane Drahm through a converted try and a penalty - but the former Queensland Red did miss two penalty attempts and a drop goal.

Neath, who never seriously looked like scoring a try in the first half, replied through Wales fly-half Lee Jarvis with a 15-metre drop goal 14 minutes into the game.

The Wales international half-back reduced the arrears with a 35-metre penalty 12 minutes into the second period.

Both sides were reduced to 14 men when Jarvis was sent to the sin bin along with Bristol centre Andrew Higgins for fighting.

Recent arrival

Australian stand-off Dan Parks inspired Leeds to their first win as French side Beziers were routed by the Yorkshiremen.

Leeds ran out 48-17 winners against previously unbeaten pool three rivals Beziers, with Parks collecting an 18-point haul from three penalties and as many conversions following his recent arrival from Sydney.

Chris Hall's ninth-minute try set the home side on their way - and there were further touchdowns for hooker Matt Holt, scrum-half Scott Benton, centre Tristan Davies, Hall again and wing Dan Scarborough.

London Irish cruised to their second pool six win to move top of the table with a comprehensive 48-12 victory over Italian side L'Aquila at the Madejski Stadium.

Full-back Ed Thrower, wing Paul Sackey and centre Rob Hoadley all went over for two tries each, while stand-off James Brown collected 13 points with the boot.

First win

L'Aquila were brought back down to earth following their 25-14 debut win over Vallodolid last week and relied on stand-off German Cagnolo - he kicked four penalties - for their points.

Meanwhile, French outfit Dax got back to winning ways with a hard-fought 26-11 victory in Spain against pool six whipping boys Valladolid.

Italian side Viadana, new to European competition, registered their first pool five win with a 26-10 success over French side Bourgoin.

Second row Santiago Dellape and centre Ryan Pickering touched down for the Italians, with Ray McDonald collecting a 16-point haul from four penalties and two conversions.
