He pipped Olympic silver medalist Rob Hayles into second on the line, with John Tanner in third. It was Hunt's second success in Wales, having won the event when it was held in Brynmawr in 1997. It gives the Big Mat rider a boost in his attempt to gain a place on this year's Tour de France which starts next Saturday. But he remained tight lipped about his chances, saying: "I'm not sure about making it and I will just have to see what happens after this. "But it was my first win of the season and I seem to be coming good after a series of injuries and crashes." Highest placed of the Welsh riders was Anthony Malarczyk, who finished 18th out of the 19 finishers. The race was disrupted in the early stages when organisers forgot to remove a no entry sign on part of the course. Although the race was re-started, the riders denied it had had any effect on the result. |
