Shane Howarth: Scoring record

Newport had started poorly with their game littered with stray kicks, loose passes and schoolboy handling errors.

In fact it was the Division One side who looked the more adventurous early on and led through a penalty goal by impressive fly-half Simon Daniel.

It must have stirred a couple of dark memories for Newport fans with their side having suffered some cup shocks in previous years of the competition.

One-way traffic

But cheered on by a travelling contingent of some 2,500 Black and Amber fans that must have made Broadacre feel like Rodney Parade, Newport finally found some fluency to their game.

They opened their try count with a spectacular length of the field effort, started by full-back Matt Pini deep inside his 22 which led to Mostyn scoring at the other end for the first of his three touchdowns.

Daniel landed two more penalties as Dunvant continued to cause their illustrious opponents plenty of problems, but Mostyn's second try just before the interval seemed to knock the fight out of them.

Howarth converted and landed a penalty as Newport turned around ahead and with a strong wind at their backs in the second half it was all one-way traffic.

The scoreboard operator was a busy man after the interval as centre Andy Marinos claimed the first of six second-half tries.

Further efforts came from Mostyn, for his hat-trick, fly-half Howarth, giant Fijian lock Simon Raiwalui, prop Adrian Garvey and then wing Ben Breeze late on.

Dunvant fans had something to cheer when replacement centre Will Morgan claimed a consolation score seven minutes from time, but it is Newport who go into the last four where they will meet Ebbw Vale.
