![]() | Hayatou plays his hand ![]() 'I think I'll win. Wait and see' - Issa Hayatou As he unveiled his manifesto for the future of football in Paris, Fifa presidential hopeful Issa Hayatou gave a rare interview in English exclusively to World Football's Alan Green... While most analysts are saying Issa Hayatou's chances of victory in the presidential election are slim, he told World Football that somebody had to stand against Sepp Blatter. "I think the internal atmosphere in Fifa is not good" he said.
"It is necessary for us to bring a new atmosphere in. All around the world, both the Fifa administration and the media say there is something wrong. "And also I think it will be good for my experience to stand against Sepp Blatter". Mr Hayatou denied Mr Blatter's claims, on World Football, that there was nothing new in his ideas "During the Blatter administration Oceania didn't have one place at the World Cup - I will give them one" he argued. "During his administration, he didn't limit the presidential period to two terms. I will introduce that. So if Mr Blatter says I don't have any new ideas he is not correct". Mr Hayatou aims to give one full World Cup place to Oceania, but to cut South America's allocation from five places to three. "After every World Cup there are plans to redistribute the World Cup qualifications places. Mr Blatter did it in 1998, so why can't I?" he said.
"You can't cook an omelette without breaking eggs! South America won't be happy, but many people are unhappy with the current system. "South America has only ten countries, but five places at the World Cup. Only South America has fifty percent representation. Why?". And he was again critical of Sepp Blatter's decision to unilaterally suspend the investigation into Fifa's finances ordered by the Executive Committee. "This is a very bad thing, because it is not democracy" he said. "The audit commission was created by the Executive Committee. The president alone should not have the power to stop them for no reason. "I think Mr Blatter made a big mistake when he decided to stop the audit. I wrote to him and asked him to let the commission continue to do it's job.
"He think's he'll win, and I think I will win. It will be difficult but not impossible. I can beat him. "I have 90% of Africa behind me, so wait and see". And Mr Hayatou angrily denied the accusation that Uefa was using in their plan to unseat Mr Blatter. "That is not correct" he said. "Nobody can use me, including the BBC".
