Phil Taylor says being named BBC Sports Personality of the Year would top winning the World Championship.
The 15-times world champion has been named among the 10 nominees for this year's title.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "It would be a massive honour to win it. It would be the crowning of my career.
"I have been dedicated for 30 years, so it would mean a hell of a lot. It would mean more than any World Championship to be honest."
The 50-year-old was previously nominated for the award in 2006, when he came sixth.
"It's something you can't win by using your skill," he said.
"It has got to voted for by the general public."
Taylor has enjoyed another trophy-laden year, collecting the World Championship, World Matchplay and Premier League.
But he doubts he will add the Sports Personality of the Year award to his trophy cabinet.
"I don't think I'll win it, but maybe I've got a chance of getting something," he added.
"We have always had that little bit of snobbery towards us. People always presume that darts players just go down the pub, but I don't think I've ever gone down the pub - apart from when I owned one. I don't go out."
