Over 4,500 tickets, nearly double last year's, were snapped up by lunchtime, Monday 15 October, most gone within 90 minutes of going on sale.

Once set plans are finalised up to a further 500 tickets will go on sale. Details will be on the BBC website.

All proceeds go towards staging the event at the Birmingham NEC, which will be screened on BBC ONE, 1900-2100 GMT.

Even if you could not get a ticket, there will be more ways to be a part of Sports Personality of the Year.

As well as voting on the night for the winner, we need your nominations for the BBC Sport 2007's Unsung Hero award.

Lewis Hamilton, after a stunning first season in Formula One, could be a strong contender, as could boxer Ricky Hatton, who fights Floyd Mayweather Jr for the world welterweight title less than 24 hours before the ceremony.

There are many other names likely to be in contention including Frankie Dettori, who finally won his first Epsom Derby this year, England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson after his Rugby World Cup heroics, Scotland goal hero James McFadden, and athletics World Championship gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu.

But sporting superstars are not the only ones to be honoured on the night.

The BBC's 2007 Sports Unsung Hero awards, supported by Robinsons, is designed to pay tribute to those who help others to take part in sport.
