Brockton recorded 223.19 kmh (138.69mph) last year |
A Scottish doctor has become the first Briton to win a World Cup ski event. Nigel Brockton is a speed skier and won the International Ski Federation event in Austria last weekend.
Donning aero-dynamic helmet and suits, speed skiers hurtle down a specially-pisted track about one kilometre long and the fastest through the speed gun is the winner.
The 32-year-old beat a high class field, including last year's World Cup tour winner, Philipp Hembel of Switzerland.

He recorded a speed of 150.24kph (92mph) in the opening event of the season.
Although this seems fast to non-speed skiing fans, the current world record is in excess of 250kph (155mph).
Brockton said: "I have been working towards this result for years. The track suited me well.
"I had sorted out some equipment issues in training prior to the event and have been working on the design of a new helmet, with support from the Barmoral group in Aberdeen.

Although delighted with the race win, Brockton will hope to build on his speed as the season progresses, with races in Canada, Italy and Finland to come.
In Les Arcs in France last year, Brockton reached a speed of 223.19 kph (138.69mph).
