Buechel has moved to the top of the super-G standings |
Marco Buechel won his first World Cup race in the men's super-G at Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Sunday. The Liechtenstein skier clocked a time of one minute 16.13 seconds to finish ahead of newly crowned World Cup downhill champion Stephan Eberharter.
Tobias Gruenenfelder of Switzerland was third in 1:16.33.
Buechel, who had a second and a third place in the super-G earlier in the season, finally took the top spot on the podium.
Victory means the 31-year-old also moves to the top of the super-G standings with just one race remaining.
It came the day after a disappointing downhill display, where he finished back in 19th.
"The downhill was unbelievable. It wasn't my world," said Buechel.
"The super-G was much better. I was really able to throw myself right into it and I felt great."
Eberharter's second place cemented his position at the top of the overall rankings.
His main rival, American Bode Miller, came 28th in Saturday's downhill and skied out of the Kandahar course in the super-G.
