Philippoussis wasted no time in eliminating Grosjean Photos from the match

Philippoussis took just one hour and 55 minutes to outpower Grosjean in a superb display in which his huge serve dominated.

Grosjean was allowed only two break points in the entire match as he struggled to repeat the level of performance he achieved during his defeat of Britain's Tim Henman.

Both players started well with five of the first six games won to love. Grosjean was able to match the serving of his much bigger opponent and did not drop a point on his own serve until the eighth game.

But Philippoussis proved there was more to his game than the serve that has brought him 164 aces in the tournament with his willingness to volley at the net.

Grosjean fought back with some exquisite groundstrokes and saved two set points in the 11th game to force the tie-break.

Despite an early double fault, Philippoussis held his nerve to take the tie-break 7/3 and the 26-year-old never looked back.

Grosjean was broken early in the second set and Philippoussis' seemingly invincible serve never looked in danger of being broken.

And in the third set, the Australian benefited from a second double fault from his opponent to achieve the all-important breakthrough in the eighth game and then comfortably held serve to seal victory.

"I don't think Sebastien played his best tennis and I took advantage of that," said Philippoussis.

"I think I played well and kept the pressure on.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet but it feels pretty good - I'm just very, very happy.

"Before the tournament I was just hoping to stay healthy, think about one match at a time and play solid grass court tennis."

The unseeded Philippoussis will face Roger Federer in Sunday's final.
