The fifth seed wasted no time in sweeping past the veteran Bjorkman with a superb display of serving and power from the baseline.

Roddick will now play Roger Federer in the semi-finals, the second time he has reached the last four of a Grand Slam tournament.

"My focus was pretty good today - I knew the first set was going to be pretty important," Roddick said.

"Coming in to the year, I said wanted to perform better in the Slams and I have done that, but I'm not satisfied yet."

Roddick added that he was looking forward to being 100% fit for Friday's semi-final, after suffering from fatigue and injury at the Australian Open in January.

"I didn't feel great in Australia - I was pretty tired and had an injury on top of that so I wasn't going in thinking I was going to win," he said.

"It's nice to be healthy and be able to compete to my best."

Bjorkman struggled with his first serve throughout and, although he played with spirit, the 31-year-old could not match Roddick's strength and composure on the big points.

The American made the perfect start with a break in the third game, but a string of unforced errors meant Bjorkman immediately broke back.

But Roddick put the Swede under pressure again at 2-2, forcing a volley error from the doubles expert to retake the advantage before serving out the set.

Bjorkman rarely looked like recovering.

In the second set, Roddick again broke early and Bjorkman gave up his serve once more as the American cruised into a two-set lead.
