Alexander Popp claimed the scalp of 11th seed Jiri Novak with a surprisingly easy straight-sets win.

The German beat his Czech opponent 6-3 6-4 7-6 to stroll into the last 16.

Popp, a quarter-finalist in 2000, simply had too much firepower for Novak, who has never been beyond the third round at Wimbledon.

Popp now plays Olivier Rochus after the unseeded Belgian beat Finland's Jarkko Nieminen 7-6 6-3 6-1.

Joining them in the fourth round will be the dangerous Mark Philippoussis. The Australian overpowered 35th seed Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic 4-6 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 7-6 (8-6).

Philippoussis, who reached the last eight at Wimbledon three years in a row between 1997 and 1999, fired 33 aces during the four-set match.

The Australian will face second seed Andre Agassi in the fourth round.

Last year's beaten finalist David Nalbandian claimed a five-set win over Karol Kucera in a marathon match on Court One.

Nalbandian, who now meets Tim Henman, could have made life a lot easier for himself had he cleaned up the second and third sets having taken a 4-1 lead in both.

However, the Argentine somehow managed to recover his composure to win the match 6-4 5-7 6-7 (1/7) 6-4 6-2.

France's Sebastien Grosjean, the 13th seed and a possible quarter-final opponent for Tim Henman, beat South Africa's Wesley Moodie 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-4 6-4.
