Women's round-upMaria Sharapova continued her Wimbledon streak with a 6-4 6-4 win over 11th seed Jelena Dokic. The 16-year-old Russian needed just 77 minutes to beat her opponent and move into the last 16.
Dokic, currently representing Serbia and Montenegro, looked listless, much as she had done in her first-round win over Britain's Elena Baltacha.
She squandered two break points when Sharapova served for the first set at 5-4 and from that moment on there was only one likely outcome.
A searing backhand pass gave Sharapova another break to lead 4-2 in the second set.
Sharapova, who has developed a big following since her arrival in London, finished the match with a powerful ace.
She now meets compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova, who cruised past Emilie Loit of France 6-1 6-2.
Third seed Justine Henin-Hardenne joined Sharapova in the fourth round of Wimbledon with a solid 6-4 6-4 win over Australia's Alicia Molik.
The French Open champion, whose hand was heavily strapped following her fall in the Ordina Open final last weekend, ended the Australian challenge with a stylish exhibition of grasscourt tennis.
The 2001 Wimbledon runner-up now faces 2000 Roland Garros winner Mary Pierce for a place in the quarter-finals.
Pierce came from behind to beat 23rd seed Lisa Raymond 4-6 6-3 7-5.
Elena Dementieva, another Russian, set up a daunting fourth-round encounter with top seed Serena Williams after beating Hungarian qualifier Aniko Kapros 6-3 6-1.
Williams, the defending champion, booked her place in the last 16 with a routine 6-3 6-1 win over fellow American Laura Granville, the 28th seed.
The 22-year-old Granville's only hope of springing a shock was to draw her opponent into prolonged rallies but Williams was in no mood to hang around.
Granville lost her serve at the start of the second set and the champion consolidated the break with a love game.
The only moment of concern for the hot favourite came in the fifth game when she slipped on the baseline but she was quickly up and closed out the victory in under an hour.
Sharapova, Kuznetsova and Dementieva were joined in the last 16 by a fourth Russian when 10th seed Anastasia Myskina completed a straightforward 6-3 6-3 victory over 18th seed Conchita Martinez of Spain.
Myskina will play eighth seed Jennifer Capriati who needed just 85 minutes to beat Japan's Akiko Morigami 6-4 6-4.
The American required treatment on her right shoulder midway through the match but she was much too good for her opponent.
