Britain's Lee Childs could not repeat his first-round heroics, losing in straight sets to Spanish teenager Rafael Nadal on day three of Wimbledon. The British number 11, who upset Nickolay Davydenko on Monday, was always likely to struggle against the teenager, who is ranked 411 places above him in the world.
And so it proved despite a lot of home backing on Court 13, with Nadal winning 6-2 6-4 6-3.
Afterwards, Childs lamented an untimely rain delay that broke his rhythm a break up in the third set.
"I wish we could have carried on but we had to stop," he said.
"The four games I played were pretty terrible. I came up with a few unforced errors and I didn't test his serve."
Childs picked up �14,090 in prize money and said the experience of playing two top-100 players would help him climb the rankings.
"I can take on the positive that I beat a seed here," he said.

"I can take it into my next tournament and start playing these guys regularly.
"I made too many mistakes today. But I think that comes with maybe a bit of experience, playing guys at this level."
Nadal agreed that the rain stoppage did favour him.
"I felt I played quite well today but I was better in the first two sets of my first-round match.
"I dropped my game at one point today and that was due to a combination of two factors.
"I wasn't as fast as I could be on this surface and my opponent obviously raised his game. It was nothing to do with my recent shoulder injury."
