Centre Court is the best-known tennis venue in the world and many traditionalists don't like the idea of it being roofed 1922 - Centre Court's appearance has not changed greatly since it was first opened more than 80 years ago 2004 - Centre Court is an impressive venue but bad weather can stop play for long periods of time By 2009 it is hoped that Centre Court will have a larger 15,000 capacity, better seating and a retractable roof The new roof will be a retractable 5,200 square metres folding fabric concertina which will allow natural light through Once it starts raining it should take no longer than 10 minutes for the roof to cover the court The roof will be split into two halves and a combination of hydraulic jacks and arms will move the two sections into place Players will have to go off while the roof is closing as it may take time to establish the right conditions once it is in place Delays should last no more than 30 minutes and this should allow for live tennis most of the time, whatever the weather
