Top seeds win women's doubles
| | Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez beat Russians Svetlana Kuznetsova and Elena Likhovtseva in the Australian Open women's doubles final. Spain's Ruano Pascual and Argentina's Suarez won 6-4 6-3 to clinch their fifth Grand Slam title together. The top seeds were only broken once, while serving for the match at 5-2, but rallied to complete victory. The US Open champions and world number ones were playing in their eighth straight Grand Slam final.
