Fifth seed Lindsay Davenport charged into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open with a clinical 6-1 6-3 win over Russia's Vera Zvonareva. Davenport, the only former champion in the draw, outclassed her 11th seeded opponent and sealed victory after just 47 minutes on Rod Laver Arena.
The American had Zvonareva under pressure throughout, belting 19 winners and scoring four service breaks.
Davenport will face top seed Justine Henin-Hardenne next.
Henin-Hardenne defeated Davenport in the fourth round in Melbourne last year when she rallied from 1-4 down in the deciding set and overcame cramps to win 7-5 5-7 9-7 in over three hours.
"That was quite a match, and I'm looking forward to playing her again," Davenport said.
"She's a very different player now: number one in the world, two Grand Slams. But if I play like I did today and take some chances, who knows?
"Right now I'm feeling great and excited to be back in the quarters."
