Santoro let his frustration boil over against Philippoussis |
Fabrice Santoro has been fined for spitting towards a linesman during his defeat to Mark Philippoussis at the Australian Open. Television cameras picked up the incident which came after a foot fault was called against the Frenchman.
Santoro was charged with unsportsmanlike conduct by the ATP and fined just over 800.
Karol Kucera could also be fined after accusing linesmen of bias towards Australian players.
Kucera lost in four sets to Lleyton Hewitt on Thursday.
"Even the linespeople helped him," the Slovakian told a news conference afterwards.
"I think it was a little bit on purpose."
An ATP spokesman said Kucera would be fined if his comments were found to be detrimental to the game.
"We encourage players to speak openly in their press conference, but with that freedom comes responsibility," Paul Macpherson told The Age newspaper.
