Philippoussis sees off Santoro
| | Mark Philippoussis steadied his nerves to beat Fabrice Santoro and reach the last 32 of the Australian Open. The Australian delighted the home crowd with a hard-fought 6-3 3-6 6-4 6-2 win over the Frenchman. After a tentative start Philippoussis imposed himself on the match with his trademark power both on serve and off the ground. He goes on to play Croatia's Mario Ancic, who earlier beat Alex Corretja.
