Belgian second seed Kim Clijsters dished up the dreaded 'double bagel' by beating Italy's Maria Elena Camerin without losing a game. Clijsters moved well in the match and showed no signs of the left ankle injury which threatened her place in the draw.
Camerin's undoing was her weak second serve, on which she only won four points in the match.
The only surprise came in the last game, when Camerin saved three match points before Clijsters completed the 6-0 6-0 win.
"That was pretty perfect," Clijsters said after. "I heard one guy in the crowd shout out 'Give her a game.'
"What do you want me to do, hit it in the net?"
Clijsters also confirmed that her ankle felt "pretty good" despite concerns from the previous day.
"It flared up yesterday but today it definitely felt better," she said.
"It still feels a little bit stiff but I'm getting used to playing with the taping."
