Federer will play Jeff Morrison in round two |
Wimbledon champion Roger Federer was in serene form in his straight sets destruction of Alex Bogomolov Jr. The Swiss second seed showed his power by hitting 42 winners, including 13 aces, to just nine from Bogomolov.
He did not face a break point in the entire 89-minute match and broke serve five times himself.
The American stayed with Federer in the first and second sets but the Swiss star was always well in control and won 6-3 6-4 6-0.
"I'm happy to have started well - straight sets in the first round is a good start," said Federer.
"The beginning was a little bit tentative, but after I started to go for my shots, I served well and volleyed well, so I'm really happy."
Federer will meet another American qualifier in the second round after Jeff Morrison beat Dutchman Dennis van Scheppingen 6-4 6-2 6-4.
