Corretja has yet to make it past the third round in six attempts at the Australian Open. It is a poor record for a man ranked number two in the world in 1999, but the Spaniard usually has to wait for the European season to get into full swing before his year gets going. At the age of 28 it is possible that Corretja's best years are behind him, and if he is to find Grand Slam success it is likely to come at the French Open. One of the world's best clay-courters, Corretja has twice been a runner-up at Roland Garros and last year made the last four. Otherwise it was an average year, with two titles picked up on clay in Switzerland, and there was little sign of a breakthrough away from familiar surroundings. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
