Roddick burst on to the scene in 2001 with a run to the last eight of the US Open, and he remains the new American hope. The 20-year-old continued his rise up the rankings last year, collecting titles at Memphis and Houston along the way. But although Roddick finished the season as number 10 in the world there were worrying signs that his game is lacking in several areas. The rejuvenated Pete Sampras demolished his young compatriot at the US Open, and Roddick lacks the variety from the back of the court to trouble the best baseliners. However, Roddick does have one of the best serves in the game, a huge forehand, and a fighting spirit that bears comparison with Lleyton Hewitt. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
