0010: Well, that's that. Thanks for your company, it wasn't exactly the result we expected but at least it's something to tell your friends about on Monday morning. While Young moves on to face Tommy Robredo, there's lots of work for Murray to do before he returns to action in Miami in a couple of weeks' time. We'll be there (or rather here, watching them there), see you then.
Murray 6-7 (4-7) 3-6 Young Murray goes long at 30-15 and Hawkeye confirms it was miles long. Moments later it's
match point for Young... and Murray finds the net. Young screams in delight and is rightly thrilled. Murray is off the court in a trice.
DONALD YOUNG BEATS ANDY MURRAY 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 * Murray 6-7 (4-7) 3-5 Young No problem for Young as he holds again to move within one game of victory, with Murray still maddeningly inconsistent - one beautiful lob is followed by another shot dumped in the net.
From Philip, London, via text on 81111: "If Andy loses this, then I'm afraid it will all be over between me & him."
Murray 6-7 (4-7) 3-4 Young * Murray looks ready to make his opponent work for it at 40-0 but then makes two errors and a double fault. If his knee isn't the problem, this has been a dreadful performance so far. Still, he comes through the game and the great thing about tennis is that as long as you're out there, you can win.
* Murray 6-7 (4-7) 2-4 Young Young, diamond ear studs glinting in the desert sun, holds his nerve from 30-30 and powers away a forehand winner on game point. My mum wouldn't let me get an earring when I was 15, one of many things I have to thank her for.
Murray 6-7 (4-7) 2-3 Young * A huge point at deuce and again it's Young who leads the way until Murray breaks down and finds the net.
Break point for Young and he attacks the net, with Murray netting another backhand under huge pressure. Great stuff from The Don, can he consolidate the break this time?
* Murray 6-7 (4-7) 2-2 Young One slip aside, it's another very impressive game from Young who's stepping in and attacking off both sides to keep Murray scrambling around behind the baseline.
Murray 6-7 (4-7) 2-1 Young * A poor backhand has Murray in trouble again at 30-30 but he finds a good serve before moving to the net and sticking away a smash to go in front, for the first time in a while.
* Murray 6-7 (4-7) 1-1 Young Yep, Young makes a couple of errors to fall 15-40 and
two break points down... and thumps a forehand into the net on the second. There's plenty left in this one.
Murray 6-7 (4-7) 0-1 Young * Uh-oh. Much as it's been a pretty disappointing performance from Murray so far, Young is now showing why he was once so highly touted as a future star. He quickly finds himself at 0-40 and
three break points... and fires a cracker of a backhand winner down the line. He's put himself in line for the best win of his career here, it's a different matter converting though....
Murray 6-7 (4-7) Young We've had to wait nearly an hour but Murray plays his first truly special shot of the day, flipping a cross-court backhand past Young at the net for 4-4. The American keeps on gambling though and heads back to the net, this time forcing the attempted pass to go wide, and Young wallops a forehand for 6-4 and
two set points... and Murray blazes a forehand wide. Settle back everyone, we could be here for a while.
Murray 6-6 (2-4) Young "Show something!" yells Murray after double-faulting on his first service point, and he gets a bit lucky when Young sends a backhand carelessly wide before himself double faulting for 2-2. The American still has the upper hand though and goes to the changeover two points up.
Kate Lancaster via Twitter: "Here we go again, I have lessons to plan and assignments to do, but tennis comes in between me and my PGCE once again..."
Murray 6-6 Young * Murray chooses a good time to produce a love service game, taking it with a nifty lob volley, and he'll hope to carry that form into the tie-break.
From Kev in Cambridge via text on 81111: "Oh it's the joy of supporting a Brit in any event that keeps us so engaged isn't it? will they won't they, they will!? Aaaah, no they won't...C'MON MUZZA!"
* Murray 5-6 Young The boisterous crowd lets out a collective sigh when their man double faults for 15-30 but Murray drags a forehand into the net after dominating the rally, and it's 30-30. Umpire Mohamed Lahyani then yelps "Correction!" so sharply it unnerves me, and he suffers the indignity of seeing Hawkeye correct him. Young holds.
Murray 5-5 Young * Murray is in big trouble at 0-30 and is grateful to see a Young forehand down the line go long, because he wasn't getting it back. Some wag then calls out during the Briton's next serve but he holds his nerve and sees out a tense game.
* Murray 4-5 Young Murray might have talked at length the other day about his new-found calm and maturity but he's already in a tetchy mood, screaming at himself as Young dominates another service game to edge ahead again. There's no need for any drama yet, he just needs to play a bit smarter and cut out the errors. Easier said than done, I grant you.
From Sue via text on 81111: "Vowed after AO that I would stop getting stressed by Andy but Hey Ho here we are again."
Murray 4-4 Young * Murray stops the rot but only just, jabbing a fairly lame backhand into the net at 40-30 after Young catches him completely off guard with a return right to his toes. A wayward Murray backhand then flies wide and it's deuce, but he gathers himself with a serve out wide and a sweeping backhand. It's hard going though, another double fault making it deuce again before Young lets him off the hook with a forehand that, I think, bounces before it hits the net.
alex_willis via Twitter: "Umpire Mo forced to shout as microphone breaks on Court 2...& Young flashes into life, breaks Murray straight back."
* Murray 3-4 Young Young races through a confident service game to love and he is the man with the Big Mo. At the mo.
Murray 3-3 Young * A mixed bag from Murray, who hits an ace at 15-30, a double fault at 30-30, and a big service winner at
break point down. That prompts a "C'moooon!" Young stays in the game with a searing off-forehand winner that gets the crowd going and Murray then bunts a forehand long.
Break point two for Young.... and Murray frames a forehand into the stands. All thoughts of a swift victory are shelved, for the moment.
* Murray 3-2 Young Young is in trouble at 0-30 but finds a terrific angle with his lefty forehand to open up the court and this time puts away the smash. However, he then goes for too much with a forehand and it's
two break points for Murray.... and Young slides a forehand into the tramlines.
Murray 2-2 Young * It's been a positive start from both men and Murray looks determined to take the initiative on his way to 40-0, before getting slightly lucky when a lob volley fails to get over Young, only for the American to smash long.
* Murray 1-2 Young Murray follows a good return into the net and forces Young to go for too much with an attempted pass, and the American then appears to have leaked a forehand over the baseline only for Hawkeye to say it clipped the line. Young wins the replayed point for 40-15 and takes the game.
* Murray 0-1 Young Young makes a great start, holding to love with some solid serving before bouncing back to his chair. Murray's hair is verging on the out of control again, could be time to get the clippers out.
* denotes NEXT to serve 2221: It's another scorcher in Indian Wells and Murray, sporting white shirt and black shorts, will be hoping to get through this one swiftly. Let's hope the sensitive skins of the courtside British press pack survive the brutal conditions...
2214: Indian Wells is about as top notch as it gets outside the Grand Slams, although the ATP and WTA finals and forthcoming Miami event vie for fifth spot in the rankings. Still, everyone who's anyone is in the Californian desert this week, including British number one
Andy Murray. His mission - to avoid the dreaded slump of 2010. Last year, Murray took
his Aussie Open final defeat by Roger Federer so badly he could hardly win a match for weeks on end. Today's opponent, Donald Young, will be hoping for similar form from the Briton today.
2212: If you feel the need to unburden yourself of any tennis knowledge or opinions then follow the instructions above and do so via text (UK) or twitter (the world), and feel free to
tweet me directly if you so wish. I am contractually obliged to say that, no idea why.
2209: Good evening, and welcome back tennis. Yes, there's been the odd skirmish since
the Australian Open, but the true test of a tournament's worth is the presence, or otherwise, of a BBC live text. And here we are....
