It's cooler in Melbourne at the start of the second week as the men continue to battle for last-eight spots. The 46th-ranked Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov is blown away in the opening set against fourth seed Robin Soderling
Over on Hisense, two days after upsetting the locals by dumping out Sam Stosur, the left arm of Petra Kvitova does not look so lively as she loses the opening set against Italy's world number 22 Flavia Pennetta 6-3
What happened to the bright start Robin? Sweden's Soderling gets fired up as he racks up another unforced error to slowly lose grip of his clash with Dolgopolov. The Ukrainian 22-year-old takes the second set 6-3
The battle between Kvitova and Pennetta is hotting up nicely and it's the Italian's turn to let her standards slip with the 25th seed dishing up 17 winners to secure the second set and take it to a last-set decider
Having seen Soderling fight back to take the match into a fifth set, Dolgopolov finally grinds down the Swede to book his last-eight spot in his debut appearance at the Australian Open and in only his fourth Grand Slam
Andy Murray is not the only Brit in action on day eight as 18-year-old Jennifer Ren hits Court 6 and sees off local girl Kassandra Dunser 6-3 6-3 in just under two hours to make the second round in the Junior Girls
It might be a bad hair day for Kvitova but she comes through a deciding set unscathed to dump out Pennetta and bag a last-eight spot after 115 minutes. A fine effort by the Czech who made last year's Wimbledon semis
Time for the Andy Murray to dish up some more big serves on Rod Laver Arena as the world number five goes up against Austrian Jurgen Melzer who promised plenty of aggression in his pre-match build-up
Team Murray - which includes Andy's mum and Scottish comedian Billy Connolly - are delighted with their man's display at the start of the match as Britain's number one wins the opening set in 37 minutes
The frustrations build for the Austrian world number 11 as he struggles to contend with his opponent's mix of forehands, resilient defence from the baseline and dominant serving. Is there a way back for Melzer?
The answer is an emphatic "no" for the 29-year-old as he is broken again. Time to release some tension on his unsuspecting racquet. Murray eases through the second set and looks hot in the third
The first set may have been slightly competitive but Melzer's head soon drops and Murray powers through the final set to wrap up victory in 104 minutes. Only Dolgopolov stands in the way of a place in the semi-finals
After not fully firing in previous rounds, Vera Zvonareva turns on the style. The world number two, runner-up last year at Wimbledon and US Open, makes the quarters with a straight sets win over Iveta Benesova
China's 25-year-old Shuai Peng resorts to some unorthodox moves in an effort to keep up with Poland's Agnieska Radwanska as the pair battle for a place in the last eight in Melbourne
The 12th seed Radwanska has some apologising to do after whacking one of the ball boys with a ball. There are a few nervy moments at one set all but the Pole eventually pulls through for her quarter-final berth
Canadian hotshot Milos Raonic, who beat seeds Michael Llodra and Mikhail Youzhny in his two previous matches, winds up his serving arm and stuns Spaniard David Ferrer to take the first set. Another shock on the cards?
Raonic doesn't disappoint with 15 more aces but 68 unforced errors won't help anybody as the seventh seed Ferrer wins the next three sets to match his best result at the Australian Open in 2008 and makes the quarters
Next on Rod Laver, world number one Rafael Nadal faced 15th seed Croat Marin Cilic (pictured) - the Spaniard battled hard to take a two-set lead.
Nadal broke the Croat twice in the third to win the match 6-2 6-4 6-3 and set up a quarter-final clash against fellow Spaniard David Ferrer.
Belgium number three seed Kim Clijsters and Ekaterina Makarova are the last to play - the first set is error strewn and won by Clijsters following a tie-break
But Clijsters kicks on to win the second set 6-2 and will take on Polish 12th seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the last eight
