1127: My Jerry Springer moment - I woke up this morning expecting a tight, tense battle between Andy Murray and Roger Federer. What I got was an outstanding display from the Super Scot, which was caked with fabulous shots, great athleticism and mental toughness which Federer had no answer to. The new world number two did not convert any of his six break points, which owed more to Murray's spirit as much as his own failings. Which direction will their careers go next season? Not sure, but I'm dying for a cuppa. Thanks for reading and your contributions.
1116: And finally from tweet world...
AaronWood1986 on Twitter: "The best I have ever seen Andy play in ages. He beat Federer to a pulp today and not often you say that about the Swiss."
Nick via text, 81111: "Murray is once again getting my hopes up with good performances only for him to probably choke again in the tour finals."
Andy Murray on his victory: "I hit the ball well from the back of the court. Obviously with Roger he is going to be able to dictate points so you just have to hang in. I'm very pleased. I returned his serve well and got a lot of free points on my mine. My second serve has improved. I've moved really well all week. I want to get a bit of endurance back."
ANDY MURRAY BEATS ROGER FEDERER 6-3 6-2 TO WIN THE SHANGHAI MASTERS Murray 6-2 6-3 FedererFed comes to the net and blasts into the net. What's that about Roger. Murray returns to the feet of Federer - the Swiss player cannot scoop it out. Championship point. Fed saves. Deuce. Another championship point after Fed finds the net. Fed comes to the net - and guess what? The ball hits the cord and bounces back. Murray wins. It never looked anything but.

*Murray 5-2 6-3 Federer Murray's stamina is quite something. Wins another point from the back on the stretch. The final point of the game is reviewed - but the review shows Federer's return is out. Murray had already sat down before the judgement. He knew. Fed to serve to survive.
* Denotes NEXT to serve *Murray 4-2 6-3 Federer Having praised Murray, I do wonder where Federer's lightness of touch has gone. He holds after Murray fires a return into the net.
* Denotes NEXT to serve Anon via text, 81111: "Roger Federer to enter administration you reckon? And get 9 grand slams deducted so he would be on 7 ... Just a shocking nightmare."
Murray 4-1 6-3 Federer* It's not that Federer's played that poorly. It's just Murray's fitness, mixing of shots, with power and slice, has been to much for the former number one to cope with. Changing of the guard? The final point of this game sees Federer come to the net, return and see Murray comfortably pass him.
* Denotes NEXT to serve *Murray 3-1 6-3 Federer Murray moves to 30-40 following a Fed error. A Murray challenge - did Federer's shot from the baseline go out. No, by fractions. But then Murray breaks anyway. Fed's not at the races and angered by the umpire following the review call - they're conversing in French.
* Denotes NEXT to serve ejsbennett on Twitter: "Murray is doing well. Is this Federer's comeuppance after his campaign of pelting tennis balls into men trying to shave?!."
1045: Thanks for all the tweets. Let's put a few up.
Murray 2-1 6-3 Federer* Fed just came out on top in a 21-shot rally after Murray finds the net. A few errors creeping into the British number one's game. He's 0-30. Big serve. 15-30. His average first-serve speed is about 20 kph faster than Fed's. Another error from Murray hands Fed two break points. Murray saves the first following a Fed error, then the Scot slams down a winner after a long rally. Murray fires down an ace to escape and win the game. Keenly fought these, eh?
* Denotes NEXT to serve *Murray 1-1 6-3 Federer Murray is playing the sort of fantasy tennis Fed used to play in his pomp. Another great pick-up from the far rear right sails crosscourt past Federer. Two errors from Murray hands his opponent the game.
* Denotes NEXT to serve Murray 1-0 6-3 Federer* There is some sublime tennis out there. Actually, it's more like sublime stuffed crust with cheese tennis. It's that good. Murray makes an error on his backhand to give Fed a break point. Murray serves to Fed's backhand and gets himself out of a pickle. Fed pointed out Murray's slice in the preview and it outfoxes him, overhitting a forehand from the back. Murray serves big to escape from 15-40 down to win the game. Classy.
* Denotes NEXT to serve *Murray 6-3 Federer Another double fault from Fed. Hmm. I don't like using the word 'awesome', but that was an awesome flicked forehand return from the back of the court from Murray - two set points. That was good. Erm... but then that's bettered. Fed is set to save one break point with a deft drop, but no luck for the Swiss player as Murray sprints like Usain Bolt, angles his racket and returns crosscourt to leave Federer baffled. I'm speechless.
* Denotes NEXT to serve Murray 5-3 Federer* Murray comes into the net and produces a lovely high backhand volley. But an error hands Fed a break, which Murray escapes from with a vicious serve. Murray then wins a long rally following Federer's error on a backhand return. A kicking second serve gives Murray the game. Federer to serve to try to stay in the set.
* Denotes NEXT to serve stephd89 on Twitter: "Murray's first serve % has gone down from 100 to 54%, he will need to keep it up to have a good chance of winning."
*Murray 4-3 Federer I quite like the fact on a review there were people shouting "in, in". It was 'in' and Federer moved to 40-30 up. But then the Swiss star shanks a smash - horribly. Deuce. Fed then fluffs his line coming to the net. He then plays a wayward backhand that hands Murray a break point. Fed saves. He then saves another break point - this time finding accuracy with his smash. That's better from Federer, coming into the net and unleashing a dipping forehand to finally seal the game.
* Denotes NEXT to serve Murray 4-2 Federer* More good precision serving from Murray to go 40-15. The Briton then attacks a backhand to win the game comfortably. Murray said in his preview he likes playing Federer - I can see why.
* Denotes NEXT to serve *Murray 3-2 Federer Federer takes the game, but they play a great point at 40-0 - Murray only just fails to return a flicked forehand from the back after both players covered every blade of...er... hardcourt material. By the way, it's not a full house but it's loud. Very.
* Denotes NEXT to serve Murray 3-1 Federer* The drop-shots are working for Murray too. He's got a feel for the ball and pace of the court already. But guess what? Federer's woken up - he makes Murray work the court to go 30-15 ahead. Murray then panics with a forehand from the back to give Federer a break point. Glory in Fed's sights when he comes to the net to play a drop - but it's poor. Murray then serves himself out of trouble. Good save for the Scot.
* Denotes NEXT to serve Zia, Algeria via text, 44 7786200666: "Time for Murray to power on and highlight the extent of Fed's decline. The whole office is following this match."
philgarrood on Twitter: "Mmm. Murray likes playing The Fed. Either straight sets for Andy, or The Fed to work it in 3. Muzzas got to keep focused. "
*Murray 2-1 Federer I've not seen Murray fire down winners like that so early in a match for a while - a crosscourt backhand leaves Fed rooted for 30-30. Fed then fails to cope with a looping return. Another break point for Murray. Fed saves. Goes to deuce but the Swiss sensation holds. Murray looks very, very good though.
* Denotes NEXT to serve Murray 2-0 Federer* Almost a love game for Murray, but Fed was not going to have any of that, coming into the net to slap a winning angled forehand. But Murray makes no mistake with the next point - heavy serve which Fed could not cope with.
* Denotes NEXT to serve *Murray 1-0 Federer A double serve from Fed after winning the first point. What's that about Rog? The he serves up an ace, then two unforced errors. We've had everything from the lad already. Deuce. A beautiful forehand return from the baseline gives Murray an early break point. An unforced forehand error from Federer hands Murray the game. You heard right.
* Denotes NEXT to serve 0939: The players are warming out on the court. Bit more Sunday stat chat: Murray leads Fed 7-5 in head-to-heads. Neither have dropped a set in Shanghai this week. It's 72F. Thought you might like some temperature news too.
0933: Murray suffered a bit of a lapse in the first set of his 6-4 6-1 semi win over Juan Monaco, but looked impressive in the second set. Federer endured a stiffer test against Novak Djokovic in his semi. Victory saw Fed leapfrog the Serb to become number two in the world - again.
andy_murray on Twitter: "Nani nice 20 points as capo, looking for 65 points to rocket up the table, my brother is awful."
Glad to see there has been nothing else but the forthcoming match on Murray's mind today. Fantasy football? Pah! I'm just upset I didn't participate this season..
0930: It's the showdown in Shanghai, the clash in China, the... I'll stop now. Murray v Federer - it does what it says on the tin. It's 1-1 between the two this year. Fed beat Murray in the Aussie Open final but then the Scot defeated his rival to win the Toronto Masters in August. So who'll go 2-1 up? I don't know, I only work here, but maybe you do - so,
