Murray and Hutchins teamed up in the Davis Cup last year

Andy Murray and Ross Hutchins suffered a first-round loss to Philipp Kohlschreiber and Gael Monfils at the ATP Rogers Cup in Canada on Monday.

The British pair rarely settled against the German and world number 18 Monfils and went down 6-3 6-2 in Toronto.

Murray, who parted with coach Miles Maclagan in July, will now focus on the defence of his singles title.

The 23-year-old Scot, number four in the world, will face Xavier Malisse or Michael Berrer on Wednesday.

Murray's last competitive outing was his defeat by Sam Querrey in the final of the Farmers Classic in Los Angeles.

The British number one has received a first-round bye for this week's ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

He beat Argentine Juan Martin del Potro in the final in Montreal last year and is now targeting a fifth ATP Masters 1000 trophy and the 15th singles title of his career.

Murray is still searching for a new coach after he split from Maclagan, with whom he had worked for two-and-a-half years.

The pair teamed up in 2007, with Murray reaching two Grand Slam finals under his guidance before Maclagan was sacked after a meeting in Florida.

After playing in Canada, Murray will compete at the Cincinnati Masters in the build-up to the US Open, which begins on 30 August.
