Laura Robson is one of a crop of rising British players |
Wimbledon qualifier Laura Robson heads the British challenge for this week's Aegon GB Pro-Series Wrexham event at the North Wales Regional Tennis Centre. Heather Watson is another strong Brit, while Sania Mirza from India is the highest ranked player on the entry list, at 111th in the world. Wrexham Academy star Lisa Whybourn has secured a place in the singles main draw, which consists of 32 players. But fellow Academy member Sian Bayliss must first win through qualifying. The event will see both singles and doubles matches taking place over the week on the outdoor courts, with the doubles final scheduled to take place on Saturday 24 July and the singles final scheduled to take place on Sunday 25 July. Steven Martens, player director of the Lawn Tennis Association, said: "The AEGON GB Pro-Series events showcase some of the best up and coming talent in the world and offer British players the opportunity to compete at the highest level on home soil. "Competition is vitally important in developing both the tactical and mental competitive qualities the players need to have in place as they progress and develop."
