Andy Murray will practise in Barcelona this week as he attempts to rediscover his form but does not plan to play in next week's tournament there.
The 22-year-old crumbled to a third defeat in a row at the Monte Carlo Masters on Wednesday.
That led to suggestions he might seek a wildcard for next week's Barcelona Open, but the Scot has opted to head there just to practice instead.
Murray's next tournament will be the Rome Masters, which begins on 26 April.
He trained at an academy in Barcelona as a teenager.
Despite that, the red dirt remains his least favourite surface, but a crushing 6-2 6-1 defeat by Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in Monte Carlo was nevertheless a humbling experience, especially given his semi-final run there last year.
It came after he also fell at the first hurdle at the Miami Masters, beaten by Mardy Fish, and went out in the quarter-finals at the Indian Wells Masters.
Since reaching the final of the Australian Open in January, Murray's record reads: won four, lost four - and his latest defeat means he will slip to fifth in the world rankings.
The British number one has made no secret of the fact that winning a Grand Slam title is now his highest priority.
However, he admitted that he had struggled for motivation at Indian Wells - something he had put right in Monte Carlo, despite the result.
"I sat down with Miles [Maclagan, his coach] and Alex [Corretja, a coaching advisor], and spoke about making sure my priority was to peak for the Grand Slams, but that I can still play great tennis at the Masters and try to win every match that I play in.
"That's what I need to be focused on and that's what we talked about after Indian Wells, because the adrenalin wasn't there.
"I was happy that that came back in my singles [in Monte Carlo]. I was nervous beforehand, which is good then I played rubbish. I haven't played like that in a long time.
"The sooner I start winning again and going deep into tournaments, the better for me. But I can't get there if I play like that."
