Baltacha has made a strong start to the season

British number one Elena Baltacha took her winning streak to six matches with an easy first-round victory at the Cellular South Cup in Memphis.

The 26-year-old, seeded eighth, defeated Renata Voracova of the Czech Republic to join fellow Briton Anne Keothavong in the second round.

Baltacha reached her highest ranking of 70 after winning the biggest title of her career in Michigan last week.

She will face Canadian qualifier Valerie Tetreault in the second round.

Victory in that match could set up a third-round encounter with top seed Maria Sharapova.
