Keothavong is ranked 127th after reaching number 48 before her injury |
Britain's Anne Keothavong is through to the quarter-finals in her first tournament since recovering from a serious knee injury. The 26-year-old Londoner, who played for Great Britain in the Fed Cup last week, returned to tour action at the ITF event in Midland, United States. And after defeating Croatia's Ivana Lisjak in round one, Keothavong then beat Greece's Eleni Daniilidou 6-1 6-1. British number one Elena Baltacha is also through to the last eight. The Scot thrashed France's Severine Beltrame 6-2 6-0 on Thursday. "I'm pleased with my performance today and to be through to the quarter-finals of my first tournament back," Keothavong told BBC Sport after her win over 27-year-old Daniilidou. | 606: DEBATE |
"Eleni Danilidou is a very experienced player and I expected a much tougher battle but I'm not going to complain. My body is still trying to adjust to competing again and I'm aching everywhere but it's great to be back. "There's still a lot of work to be done and improvements to be made if I want to get back to where I was before my injury but that will take time, and I don't have any huge expectations right now. "I'm just happy to be playing matches again and if I keep winning, even better, I'll just take it as it comes." Fellow Britons Katie O'Brien, Naomi Broady and Heather Watson all lost earlier in the tournament, which is part of the second-tier ITF circuit below the WTA Tour.
