World number one Serena Williams has pulled out of next week's Paris Indoor Open because of a leg injury. The 28-year-old American picked up the injury on the way to winning the Australian Open for the fifth time in Melbourne last month. Williams has lifted the Paris trophy twice in five appearances, winning both her titles in 1999 and 2003 against France's Amelie Mauresmo. Mauresmo won last year's event but has since retired from the sport. Russia's Elena Dementieva is the now the highest-ranked player taking part in the tournament, which starts on Monday.
