LIVE TEXT COMMENTARY (all times GMT) To get involved text us your views & comments on 81111 (UK) or +44 7786200666 (worldwide). (Not all contributions can be used) 1115: That's it for another day then. Easy street for most of the big guns today - and you know what that means. Yes, an explosive second week awaits us. Apart from Murray-Isner tomorrow, we'll have a night session of Henin-Wickmayer and Roddick-Gonzalez. I simply cannot wait... but I suppose I'll have to. Stick around the BBC website though: Chris Bevan will be bringing you FA Cup fourth-round action very shortly. 1110: The women look like this: Serena-Stosur, Zvonareva-Azarenka, Wozniacki-Li, Schiavone-Venus, Henin-Wickmayer, Petrova-Kuznetsova, Bondarenko-Zheng, Kirilenko-Safina. 1108: The fourth-round line-up is complete then. The men look like this: Federer-Hewitt, Verdasco-Davydenko, Djokovic-Kubot, Tsonga-Almagro, Roddick-Gonzalez, Cilic-Del Potro, Murray-Isner, Karlovic-Nadal. 1104: It's not Jimbo, it's Todd Woodbridge, who is a lot more predictable with his questioning. Not much to report from Wozzy, except that she's very, very happy to be in the last 16. 1100: Bit of an epic final game, but Caroline Wozniacki defeats Shahar Peer 6-4 6-0 to take her place in the fourth round. The Dane will face Li Na next. Now, where's Jim Courier? 1058: Oooh, BBC television are keeping us on tenterhooks, so they are. Still no confirmation of whether Andy Murray's fourth-round match against John Isner will be on BBC One or Two from midnight GMT tomorrow. It will be on one or the other though, I'm pretty sure of that, and it will definitely be streamed on the BBC website and live on BBC 5 live. 1050: Just one match still going... but maybe not for much longer. Caroline Wozniacki leads Shahar Peer 6-4 4-0 on Rod Laver Arena. I feel a bit sorry for those ticket-holders on RLA. They had the non-event between Hewitt and Baghdatis and now this. Oh well. At least they'll get an early tram home. And also, they live in Australia, so not all bad. 1047: The work isn't over for Jo-Willy. Oh no. He's got to face Jim Courier now. The American decides to show off his version of Tsonga's trademark celebration (pointing at imaginary name on back of shirt etc) before asking where it came from. "It's something I did the first time
three years ago I think," says the 24-year-old. "The crowd liked it and every time I'm obliged to do that." 1041: Turns out Tommy Haas had next to no fight left in him, perhaps dwelling on that point he had for a 5-2 lead in the set. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will face Nicolas Almagro in the fourth round after a 6-4 3-6 6-1 7-5 win. And if that earlier text was correct, Tsonga is still yet to play a five-set match. 1037: Tsonga holds to make it 5-5, and now he's really pumped up, urging the crowd to make some more noise. They oblige and the Frenchman breaks to love and will now serve for the match. Haas leaves the chair very early after the changeover - and he doesn't look like he has much of a fight left in him. Quite a turnaround. 1030: Tommy Haas plays a woeful drop shot as he tries to serve out the fourth set, allowing Jo-Willy Tsonga to take control of the point - although he needs three goes to put away the smash. That's break-back point and he takes it, sweeping the pass onto the sideline. Tsonga will still have to serve to stay in the set. Fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki serves out the first set 6-4 against Shahar Peer. 1021: Haas has a break point for a 5-1 lead, but Tsonga brings out a big serve to keep it to only one break in the fourth. The German serves out the next game to 15 for a 5-2 lead. Wozniacki and Peer are locked in a battle on Rod Laver Arena. It's 4-4 in the first set. From Guy, Shrewsbury, via text: "This will be Tsonga's first EVER five-setter if Tommy can hold on!!!" 1016: I tell you what though, Nikolay Davydenko is doing his best to make up for the absence of Marat Safin - at least in terms of bizarre press conferences. As the world's journalists desperately try to put some flesh on the bones of the man who is one of the favourites for this title, he is fielding all sorts of searching questions. Today, he was asked: "If you had to marry another Russian tennis player, who would it be?" "Marry?" responded a bemused Davydenko. "If I married another tennis player? Man or woman? I have already wife. I have my beautiful wife. I don't want to have any..." At this point, Davydenko's wife Irina piped up: "I hear you." Good work, NiDav. 1012: Fans of epic five-setters, rejoice. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga switches off for a moment, handing Tommy Haas a chance to break. The Frenchman pops up a volley for the German to run in and wallop a forehand down the line. He leads 3-1 in the fourth. 1007: Haas digging in as he saves two break points against Tsonga to lead 2-1 in the fourth set. Wozniacki and Peer 3-3 in the first set. 0958: It's about time we heard from Serena Williams. The world number one met Prince William the other day. "It was super cool," she said. "Prince William was really dapper and suave. You know, he was just basically, shazam." But wasn't she star-struck? "No, I wasn't really nervous to meet him. He was my age. I kind of always wanted to meet him, so it was kind of cool. We're the same age, so I thought it would be really cool. I told him that I might like his little brother better because he's the little brother, and he laughed and said he might like Venus better because she's older. So we just had a little joke about that." 0955: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga slams an enormous forehand into the corner to take the third set 6-1 after 32 minutes and lead by two sets to one. If this is going five sets, Tommy Haas needs to change things up. Caroline Wozniacki and Shahar Peer still on serve over on Rod Laver Arena. 0951: Tommy Haas tries an audacious drop shot which clips the net... and drops his side. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will serve for the third set at 5-1. Marcos Baghdatis after retiring against Lleyton Hewitt: "I just felt some pain in the shoulder. Felt a bit yesterday on the serve, a bit today, and in the match I just couldn't, you know, hit the forehand. I couldn't control the ball. I was pushing the ball. I was feeling the pain when I wanted to hit the ball on the impact. You know, when you do that, then you stop moving, you stop... everything goes wrong because you're just thinking about the pain and not the forehand and the serve." 0943: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga breaks for a 3-1 lead against Tommy Haas in the third set. Caroline Wozniacki and Shahar Peer are just getting going on Rod Laver Arena, the Israeli holding her opening service game. 0940: Great facts from Sam Smith on the BBC Red Button commentary. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's second cousin is in-form Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia. Tommy Haas's dad is a former European judo champion, as well as being an ex-schoolmate of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Tsonga and Haas on serve in the third set. British number one Elena Baltacha on Twitter: "Just finished doubles! Flying back to London tonight... should be back in Ipswich tomorrow night! Can't wait! Home sweet home. Had some drunken Kirilenko fans watching our doubles!! I actually felt like we were at a football match! x" 0933: Can't talk about Marat... still... too... raw. From Sara, London, via text: "Ignoring my texts about Marat, eh Caroline? Is the pain of him not being there too much? Sorry if mentioning him has upset you - but it's just not the same without him and his general craziness (and handsomeness)!" 0929: Ah, crikey. Now Tommy Haas is having some treatment from the trainer. What on earth is going on out there today? Anyway, let's get back to tomorrow. So following Murray-Isner (which starts at midnight GMT), Rafa Nadal meets another man mountain in Ivo Karlovic. Should be a serving-fest on Rod Laver Arena. The evening session features Henin-Wickmayer and Roddick-Gonzalez. That evening sounds flipping awesome, if you don't mind me saying. 0925: Hewitt-Baghdatis was a non-event, but we could be building up to a cracker on Hisense Arena. Tommy Haas serves out the second set to love against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. It's one set all. 0920: Just a reminder about tomorrow's order of play. Andy Murray against man mountain John Isner is the first match of the day on Rod Laver Arena at midnight GMT. Still waiting for confirmation of BBC television coverage, but I can tell you that you can hear live commentary on BBC 5 live as well as watch live streaming on the BBC website (UK only) with accompanying whimsical text commentary. 0916: So coming up on Rod Laver Arena: Caroline Wozniacki v Shahar Peer. There may be a longer than usual break before that one as they surely won't have been expecting to be on court this early. Tommy Haas and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are still going strong on Hisense Arena. Tsonga took the first set, with Haas leading 4-3 but on serve in the second. 0913: Of course, Lil Lleyton doesn't get away without a question from the leftfield from Courier. "I want to talk to you about jewellery," says Jimbo. "We don't see many players wearing necklaces." Hewitt responds: "It gives me more energy. Marcos probably could have used it tonight. It's a titanium necklace made by one of my sponsors in Japan - so thanks for mentioning it!" 0911: Time for Lleyton Hewitt to face a grilling from the increasingly unpredictable Jim Courier. The Aussie sympathises with Baghdatis, before moving on to talking about his fourth-round match against Roger Federer. "My ball striking tonight was fantastic. If I can go out and play like this, it should be good." Hewitt 6-0 4-2 Baghdatis (retired)Hewitt fires a stunning forehand down the line on his way to the break... and that's enough for Baghdatis. The Cypriot sits down on a linesperson's chair before trudging to the net and shaking hands with a sympathetic Hewitt. Hewitt 6-0 3-2* BaghdatisStarting to see some decent rallies now, but it's still Hewitt who is getting the better of them. An ace seals the game for Hewitt. And in response to Matt (see below), I've only been up for a couple of hours for this. Need my beauty sleep - badly. From Matt in Melbourne via text: "Watched the Brit doubles lose earlier and spent much of the rest of the day watching Aussie hopefuls on the big screen in the beer garden. Big cheers here whenever an Aussie wins a point. Can't believe you've been up all night for this..." Hewitt *6-0 2-2 BaghdatisCouple of aces in the game for Baggy and he has a game point, but a terrible backhand into the bottom of the net and it's back to deuce he goes. Hewitt, unusually, can't take advantage, swinging a forehand into the trams, and Baggy finally nails a backhand to draw level. Elsewhere, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has taken the first set against Tommy Haas 6-4, and I'm afraid I must bring you bad news from the mixed doubles. Ross Hutchins and Liezel Huber have lost 6-2 6-4 to Chia-Jung Chuang and Filip Polasek. Hewitt 6-0 2-1* BaghdatisHe may have won a game but Baggy is still not hitting through his shots. At least it's slightly better entertainment now. Hewitt takes the game with some typically scrapping. Hewitt *6-0 1-1 BaghdatisAnother forehand into the net from Baggy. This match is the dampest of squibs at the moment... Ooh, an ace now. Maybe the trainer's magic is beginning to work. Here's hoping... Oh. A forehand into the net and it's another break point for Hewitt. An ace! Big serve down the middle and Baggy has his first game point of the match. Crunching forehand winner - and HE HAS WON A GAME! From Sarah in Wokingham, via text: "Gutted that Clijsters is out. Would have liked to have seen her play Serena without the match official abuse. Hoping Hewitt and Baggy is a goodun as it will cheer up my teething daughter as well as her frazzled mummy. Nadal to win in the end tho!" Hewitt 6-0 1-0* BaghdatisWow. Baggy produces a decent crosscourt backhand, but Hewitt digs out a magnificent sliced backhand onto the sideline and goes on to hold to 15. Baggy has only won seven points so far. 0834: Baggy has called for the trainer. Not surprising. I would have done that even if I wasn't injured. Looks like a shoulder injury. Elsewhere, Tommy Haas and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are at 3-3 in the first set of their third-round match. Ross Hutchins and Liezel Huber have lost the first set of their mixed doubles match against Chuang/Polasek. Hewitt *6-0 BaghdatisHewitt steps in again and puts his approach shot into the corner, Baggy netting his backhand to give the Aussie three set points. Ambitious forehand return long on the first, but then Baggy completes a hopeless set with a double fault after 21 minutes. He can sit down and contemplate a bagel at the changeover. From anon via text: "I can remember when it was thought that Hewitt would dominate tennis after his wins in US open and Wimbledon early in the last decade. Little did anyone predict a Swiss would blow most of the competition away." Hewitt 5-0* Baghdatis"Come aaaaaaawn." Hewitt fires a stunning backhand down the line. That puts him 40-0 up. He holds to 15. Very quiet on Rod Laver Arena. Hewitt *4-0 BaghdatisHewitt rifles a forehand pass down the line and Baghdatis is facing three break points again. Baggy obligingly flops a forehand into the net on the first. Terrific start for the Aussie, but I'm wondering what's up with Baggy. Hewitt 3-0* BaghdatisBaggy's rhythm off completely, and Hewitt taking full advantage. Hewitt wearing red t-shirt, black shorts, black socks and black trainers, the kind of outfit to make the All England Club choke on its tea. From Charles via text: "Touch of sunburn from Melbourne Park today. Showered and off to the football only a tram ride up the road. What a day of sport. What a city." Hewitt *2-0 BaghdatisBaggy in trouble now, 0-30 down, but he takes control of the next point... only to put a simple volley into the net. Three break points for Hewitt. Return netted on the first, backhand long on the second, but he takes the third - stepping up on the return and finishing off with a smash, which Baggy can only net. Hewitt 1-0* BaghdatisHewitt in a spot of bother already as Baghdatis sweeps a forehand cross court for a winner... but Hewitt turns to HawkEye and the computer agrees with the Aussie. An inch wide. Instead of 15-40, it's 30-30 and a lucky netcord takes Hewitt to game point. And there's the first "come on" from Hewitt after only one game. Crikey. * denotes next to serve 0810: Rod Laver Arena still filling up. By all accounts, it's been a glorious day in Melbourne today so perhaps a few last-minute liquid refreshments are being taken on board. Here we go then: Lleyton Hewitt to serve first. 0805: So, as you probably know, Lleyton Hewitt defeated Marcos Baghdatis in the third round in 2008 in an Aussie Open classic. The match began at 11.47pm local time and finished at 4.33am - the latest (or earliest) finish in the tournament's history. 0757: If you've only just woken, I'm sorry to report that we did indeed lose the Boom Boom Brits (that's their nickname, not mine) Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski from the men's doubles overnight, beaten in three sets by Jarkko Nieminen and Michael Kohlmann. On the plus side, if you live in the UK and you manually refresh this page, you'll get live streaming of Hewitt v Baghdatis. Swings and roundabouts eh? From Sam in Southport, via text: "Lleyton doesn't do things easy so I'm gonna take my quilt down and make myself comfortable, could be a long night! Gutted for Flemski but their ranking will go up. I'm a Fed fan but want Rafa for the title." 0745: Good morning to you. Or whatever it is where you are. Stark contrast between the two men on the overnight shift. One is, to all intents and purposes, asleep with his eyes open. The other is bouncing off the walls. Quite a combination, I can tell you. Me? I'm more excited than I ever expected I would be about the upcoming match: Lleyton Hewitt v Marcos Baghdatis. Should be a Christmas cracker. Ooh, manually refresh this page would ya? Ta. 0721: Baltacha can be eyeing up her return to the winter climes of Britain - she's been dumped out of the doubles in straight sets. One singles match going on is 26th seed Nicolas Almagro playing Colombian Alejandro Falla. Almagro's leading 6-4 and it's 2-2 in the second. The winner plays Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Tommy Haas. Give us your thoughts on Twitter or via text on 81111 (UK) and +44 7786200666 (worldwide). 0713: "fed up with north American coverage - miss the good old BBC - looking foward to hewitt beating baghdatis!" Luke from Canada via text on 81111 (UK) or +44 7786200666 (worldwide) Glad to have you on board Luke. We're always there for you sir. Reckon Hewitt and Bags can go over the 4 hours 45 mins they took when they played in 2008? 0710: "I have got overexcited by the prospect of baghdatis and hewitt and woken up an hour early. Getting up at 7 as a student is madness. I have a friend who swears blind that baghdatis will win the whole tournament, so can't wait for hewitts victory!" Via text on 81111 (UK) or +44 7786200666 (worldwide) 5 live's Steve Rudge on Twitter: "Melbourne is rocking today. Sun is out. People posing on Chapel St. BBQs being fired up. Its a long weekend as Australia day on tuesday!" 0653: Baltacha and Dekmeijere have lost the first seven games in their doubles match on court 8. They did have 3 break points in the third game but it's been all downhill before then and certainly after then. And wohhhhhh - the rot is over and they've just won a game back. Hope. Hence the two flags to cover all emotions. 0647: "Howdy night owls, holding my eyelids open waiting for the ozzie hero to come on! Henin must be beaten, Serena to win." Steve in Leeds via textLoving your enthusiasm Steve. Ozzie hero? Where are you from sir? How exactly have you been holding those eyelids open? I just had a two-second power nap on the BBC floor. That is one hard floor. And that was one quick power nap. I'm back and firing on all one of my cylinders. Reckon Lleyton can make the semis this year? He'll be up against Feds if he wins today. 0640: Just to let you know, the Hewitt and Baghdatis third-round clash is first up from about 0800 GMT at the Rod Laver Arena and 5live sports extra has live coverage of this potential firecracker of a match. 0635: "sitting for the last two and a half years in a Yantai (China) shipyard, shouting on any Brit sportsperson carrying the flag for us around the world. Murray for his first big'un." A Brit in China via text 0625: "Hi all. I too am an insomniac as of tonight anyway. Just wondering about our little flirt with tennis fame this week. LOUK (Sorenson). Any idea how his world ranking will change if any for getting through qualifiers and into the 2nd round. Wonder will he get into another major?" Col in Ireland via textYep - top effort from the boy Sorenson. Will be interesting to see if he carries his form on into the summer and beyond. 0620: And if that's not enough British action for you just get a load of this. After the Baltacha doubles, Ross Hutchins plays with American Liezel Huber in the first round of the mixed doubles. 0613: Not too much action I was thinking. Well blow me down if Elena Baltacha hasn't just started winding her racket up in the women's doubles. Find me that GB graphic right now. Baltach is playing with Latvian Liga Dekmeijere against 15th seeds Maria Kirilenko and Agnieszka Radwanska. They go 2-0 down in the first set though. 0612: "Bag stupid insomnia. I texted in a few nights ago and here i am again. So happy the tennis is on to keep me company. Im not sure anyone will take it from fed this year, after last years defeat if will want it back. And with oceal still a bit wobbely maybe if will be looking for the big 4? " Sarah in Wales via textLovely to hear you Sarah but you need to get your predictive texting nailed. There are a few words in there my tired brain cannot fathom out. Nadal perhaps? Good to see your stamina still in good nick though. 0607: Bit of a lull in the live action apart from a few doubles. SOoooooo I WANT YOUR THOUGHTS. Where are you? Where have you been? Ozzie texts are out-numbering anything in Britain - come on you Brits....don't get out-texted by the Ozzies. If you can't be bothered to text then get twittering. Don't know how?....here are all the links you could possibly want on a Saturday. Give us your thoughts on Twitter or via text on 81111 (UK) and +44 7786200666 (worldwide). 0605: "It's far too warm up here in qld to leave the comfort of the air con! Murray for the win!" Joe in Queensland in Australia via text 0601: Venus is taken all the way to a tie-break in the second set - the crowd are crying out for their gal Dellacqua to take it a decider. Not bad for a player ranked 980. Not looking good though for her. After a brilliant fightback she's playing a few sloppy ones and Venus has been let off the hook. She wins 6-1 7-6. The sixth seed comes through. She'll have to raise her game in later matches. She won't have a chance if she faces her sister looking at current form. She next plays Schiavone and is set to face her sis in the semis. 0555: "Watched Halle G win the Dubai Marathon yesterday. If you stuck the top tennis stars in a marathon, who do you think would come out on top?" Mark in Abu Dhabi via text (on his way to see Ian Poulter in the golf)I'll probably go for Nadal. Probably not quite as fast as Feds but for some reason I can see that boy adopting some messy tactics to get over that line in a Whacky Races type thing. Hair pulling - things like that. But don't quote me on that. 0548: "I'm up! Trying to stay awake for Hewitt/Baghdatis rematch! If i sleep now i won't get up! Keep the updates coming! Keep me awake!" Mike in Middlesbrough via textGreat effort Mike. And you'll be pleased to know I'm not wearing the exclamation mark police helmet so you're safe...for now. 0542: China's 16th seed Li Na has beaten 22nd seed Daniela Hantuchova 7-5 3-6 6-2. Big games coming up from 0800 GMT is Hewitt vs Baghdatis and then Caroline Wozniacki vs Shahar Peer. Plus there's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga facing Tommy Haas. 0538: Is there another comeback on the cards? Venus has applied her her grumpy face and Dellacqua breaks the American after a double fault. It's 4-4 in the second set and the Ozzie crowd are going bonkers with Venus wilting. She's all over the place. And a great pass gets her within one game of levelling the match. Interesting. 0532: This is quite literally the easiest game of tennis you are ever likely to see. Istomin gets a massive cheer for taking one game away from the Serb. And then it happens again. He gets another and it's 5-2. This would be the greatest ever comeback ever in the world EVER of all time. Then of course he fluffs his service game and it's two match points. And the match finishes with a stunning rally. 6-1 6-1 6-2 and the obligatory sweatband-throwing gets under way. Massive screams as Djokovic lobs his dirty towel into the crowd. Would you wash that thing? 0521: It's time ..........for some scores for you lovely people. Djokovic is one game away from a bloomin easy win. He's only dropped two games. Doesn't get any easier than that. Venus is 3-2 up in the second set against Dellacqua. Li leads (which isn't easy to say) Hantuchova 3-1 in the deciding set. Tense times on show court 3. Anybody up? Anybody in Oz and can tell us Brits how blinking warm and lovely it is out there? 0509: Ninth seed Fernando Verdasco eases into the fourth round after Austrian Stefan Koubek retired after losing the first set 6-1. The Spaniard will now play sixth seed Nikolay Davydenko for a place in the quarters. 0502: Djokovic continues his stroll. He takes the second set against Istomin 6-1. 0500: Ahead of his match against Andy Murray on Sunday for a place in the quarters, 33 seed John Isner says: Andy is one of the fittest guys. He can do anything. He plays offence, he plays defence. I'm going to want to force the issue." Is anybody fancying Murray to topple everybody in Melbourne this year? Should he be worried against the tall American? 0452: Venus strolls to take the first set against Dellacqua 6-1. And don't start getting on your high horses about my inappropriate use of the bagel graphic. Yes yes I know it wasn't 6-0, but over the last few weeks I've become a massive fan of the bagel. Oh yes - wholegrain with cream cheese is now my official breakfast for champions. My poor old sugar puffs have been relegated to the dusty back of the cupboard. 0443: "One of the texts earlier discounted both Nadal and Murray as real challengers to Federer and concluded with their opinion that Davydenko is his greatest threat. What about Del Potro? He managed to beat him on hard court in the last slam. Surely he can't be ruled out quite yet." morgan via text 0441: Djokovic is flying. The 2008 winner leads unseeded Uzbek Denis Istomin 6-1 2-0 with the winner playing 86th-ranked Kubot for a place in the quarters. 0438: "When Federers serve is as hot as a freshly baked pasty theres no stopping him..Murray ups his serve stats though he'll give him a damn good game..and never rule Nadal out." Darren from middlesbrough via text 0430: It's time for the other Williams sister to show off her skills as Venus kicks off against Australian Casey Dellacqua - it's the sixth seed vs the 980th ranked player. Venus has got an early break in and leads 3-1 in the Rod Laver Arena. 0416: Colleague David Ornstein is working his fingers to the bone next to me (although still yet to put the kettle on) but I'll forgive him because he's cracked out a sweet report on Serena's blistering victory. Serena storms through to last 16 . Be right back. Djokovic a 3-0 lead. And Davydenko secures his win over Monaco - 6-0 6-3 6-4. He'll now play Fernando Verdasco (Spain's ninth seed) or Austrian Stefan Koubek. Schiavone ties up her win over Radwanska. The Italian leaps about 5 feet. 0409: Now Feds is off to have a few words with his two little Fed juniors, let's have a look around the courts. You coming? Djokovic has won the first two games against Istomin in the Hisense Arena. Davydenko is now serving for the match against Monaco. Italian 17th seed Schiavone is serving for the match against 10th seed Radwanska. Bit of a shock. Li is serving for the first set against Hantuchova. That'll do for now. Don't want to explode your minds with such stats. BUT I still want to hear from you. Predictions, thoughts on Feds - can anybody stop him? Is Serena the top lady again this year? Give us your thoughts on Twitter or via text on 81111 (UK) and +44 7786200666 (worldwide). 0402: Federer on his win over Montanes: "He was not making many mistakes - he's a tough player and played a good match. I had to make sure I served well because I could have had a few hiccups if didn't. I'm really happy with how I played and to go through. It was important to find my way into the tournament after a hard first-round draw against Andreev. I've been able to show my variety. Physically I'm fine, mentally I'm fresh and that's the way you want to feel going into the second week." 0358: "Game, set, match. In much the same way Sampras used to in the early rounds he's kept it simple and done no more than he had to. I'd expect to see him ste p it up next week though" Alex via text Federer 6-3 6-4 6-4 MontanesMontanes strangely had won four more points than Feds in this set before this game. Feds loses the first point but huge side spin on the serve out-foxes the Spaniard and he leads 30-15. A brilliant forehand and FEDERER wins. A standing ovation for the Swiss man. Not a bad day's work for the number one. Nine successive sets for Federer. He looks hot. Super hot. He's been my tip since a few weeks ago - nothing's changing that. What do you reckon? Federer* 6-3 6-4 5-4 MontanesMontanes totally found his range in that game. And BOY did he need it. Two great serves and a forehand pass takes him to 40-0 and he soon takes the game. One hour and 45 mins gone and Feds will soon be serving for the match. * denotes NEXT server Federer 6-3 6-4 5-3 *MontanesThink the Federer serve was going to crack did you? Not a bloomin chance. It's the turn of Montanes to start grunting as he battles at the back of the court. And then boom - an unbelievable forehand whipped towards the baseline gets him within one game of the final 16. * denotes NEXT server Federer* 6-3 6-4 4-3 MontanesFeds eases off and plays a long one with Montanes winning to love. Feds playing like an executioner waiting for the right moment. Wonder what tennis would be like with an axe in your hand? * denotes NEXT server Federer 6-3 6-4 4-2 *MontanesMontanes gets close on 30 but a forehand sends him sprawling at the back and Feds charges in to delicately drop it cross-court to take the game. It's all about doing it when you need to. Brilliant. * denotes NEXT server Federer* 6-3 6-4 3-2 MontanesThe Spaniard is giving it a battle anyway. Wins his service game to hang in there. * denotes NEXT server Federer 6-3 6-4 3-1 *MontanesComfortable. Just a matter of time. Isn't it? * denotes NEXT server 0337: Top seed Serena Williams secures her win. She goes through 6-0 6-2 and that was pretty easy despite a bit of a fightback from Suarez Navarro in the second set. Serena storms into the net to pick up a cheeky drop and crushes it to the ground for a forehand winner. The defending champion is in brilliant form and wins in 80 minutes. If I tried to play back one of her forehands I'd fly back into the fence. Astonishing. Federer* 6-3 6-4 2-1 MontanesMontanes gets a quick one back on the score card. The winner by the way gets to play Aussie Lleyton Hewitt or Marcos Baghdatis. Venus Williams on this court after Feds. * denotes NEXT server Federer 6-3 6-4 2-0 *MontanesFeds is moving in on a solid victory. Taken to deuce but his serve holds out. * denotes NEXT server 0328: Some scores for you. Serena is 6-0 4-3 up against Suarez Navarro. Davydenko has won the second set and he leads 6-0 6-3 against Monaco. Hantuchova is 1-1 against Li. Federer* 6-3 6-4 1-0 MontanesGood start for Feds and worrying times for Montanes. An early break. * denotes NEXT server 0322: INJURY UPDATE: I mentioned earlier about the withdrawal of 20th-seeded Youzhny against Poland's Lukasz. He's revealed he hurt his right wrist in the five-set win over Richard Gasquet in the first round. 0319: "Come on Feds! We're sleepy and it's been a long week! Finish him off!" Kat via textOk Kat? I texted Feds during the last game and he told me he'd hurry things along. Hope that's all OK. Anything else? Need some weather changing for tomorrow or any football scores you need me to look out for?..... Federer 6-3 6-4 *MontanesEasy. Feds grabs that two-set lead with a comfortable service game in one hour 12 minutes. 11 winners but a sloppy 18 unforced errors from Feds so far. He's too strong though. * denotes NEXT server Federer* 6-3 5-4 MontanesIt's all about timing your attack. Feds has been cruising in second gear and then winds it up with a booming forehand and leaves Montanes no chance. Stunning and utterly brilliant and he then wraps up the break of serve without dropping a point. * denotes NEXT server Federer 6-3 4-4 *Montanes Mmmmmm interesting. Feds goes 15-30 down on his service. He's looking a little grumpy right now. Up late last night with the twins perhaps? Sloppy from Montanes - he had a chance but a loopy one goes long and means Feds gets it back. * denotes NEXT server Federer* 6-3 3-4 Montanes The Spaniard battling to keep hold of his serve again and it goes to deuce. Feds has the ADV and a stunning rally finishes with Montanes rushing cross-court to win the point after a tinkle with the top of the net. Brilliant. That woke the crowd up and you know what? I'm now chomping on a teacake to keep my engine running. Feds screams like a lion as he plays one wide. I'm waiting for the commentator to say "this is a crunch game". But - I'll save him a job - this IS a crunch game and the players know it. Feds plays a back-hand into the net and he slaps his locks again with his racket. It can't be easy being a perfectionist? I'd hate to do the washing up with him. He's be always pulling me up on leaving a spot of gravy on the plates. Feds loses the game - stats show he's won 9/11 from the net. That seems high to me for a game that's only an hour gone. * denotes NEXT server Federer 6-3 3-3 *Montanes Montanes gets to 30 but a forehand down the line is too good and Feds draws level again. * denotes NEXT server 0258: "Fed is still the classiest man on the circuit, nadal is just brute power and murray is quality but still a sore loser. Davydenko is main threat to fed in this comp." Anon. via text Federer* 6-3 2-3 Montanes A tight one but Montanes squeezes through his service game. * denotes NEXT server Federer 6-3 2-2 *Montanes Feds draws level. Serena meanwhile is still playing in the sixth game looking for the first set. There have been 13 deuces in this game. Madness. Serena is struggling and complaining about not seeing the ball because of the sun. I'm sorry but wouldn't tennis players be used to playing in the sun? * denotes NEXT server Federer* 6-3 1-2 Montanes Feds is not having it all his own way. A strong service game from the Spaniard. Sorry about lack of action description but the feed on this match has turned its attentions to Serena. Sorry. What can I do eh? * denotes NEXT server Federer 6-3 1-1 *Montanes Service showing no signs of wobbling from Feds. * denotes NEXT server 0244: Serena homing in on an easy first set, Feds and Davydenko are flying. I want your predictions. I want some more lookalikes. We can do this together and get through the night. Come on. Give us your thoughts on Twitter or via text on 81111 (UK) and +44 7786200666 (worldwide). Federer* 6-3 0-1 Montanes Montanes starts well in the second set with a solid service game. * denotes NEXT server 0240: Davydenko is 5-0 up and his opponent Monaco has won just 8 points out of the first 30 on offer. Sweet times for the Russian sixth seed. 0239: It's down and out for the British doubles men. Fleming and Skupski lose 3-6 6-4 6-3 to Kohlmann and Nieminen. The positive angle on that is I don't have to type their names again. Federer 6-3 Montanes* It's the opening set after half an hour with a whole bag of aces. Game to love. Feds is cruising. Any sign of sweat on the great man? A little drizzle on his right arm but that's it. Elsewhere, Serena is serving to win 6-0 in the first set and Davydenko is 4-0 up and serving against Monaco. * denotes NEXT server Federer* 5-3 Montanes Montanes being pushed from side to side and he plays a loose one to Federer's forehand and it's 30-30. A more defensive game for Feds with Montanes already sweating buckets. He looks like someone on holiday who fancies a knockabout on holiday at the moment. Federer's backhand looking fully oiled and operating beautifully. Feds slaps his head with his racket after playing one too long. A second ace gives him the advantage and he wins the game. * denotes NEXT server 0227: "Ever since Fed arrived on the scene i've always been told i'm a look alike. I was born a month later than him, love and coach the game but sadly don't have 15 grand slams. Lady luck can be so cruel." From Will Hoar in london via text
Federer 5-2 Montanes* Has Feds been told he's babysitting in an hour's time? He strolls through his service game. This is all very quick. * denotes NEXT server Federer* 4-2 Montanes An impressive battle that one with Montanes edging his service game. Feds coming forward a lot. Has he been doing his homework on the 31st seed? * denotes NEXT server
Federer 4-1 Montanes* Feds is on easy street and takes a three-game lead after another solid serving show. * denotes NEXT server Federer* 3-1 Montanes The Spaniard has his white cap on backwards and is wearing a very conservative black outfit. A bit of a contrast to all the pink that I was feasting my eyes upon earlier. Feds in his usual pastel blue shirt. No roof for this game. The clouds are behaving themselves for now. Two break points for Feds and he strolls into the net and secures the game with a cute little drop shot with Montanes fully-stretched. Great game for the number one. Like the graphic? * denotes NEXT server Federer 2-1 Montanes* The big Swiss man is looking cool, confident, calm and anything else you can think of that begins with C. Crushing to come perhaps? Another steady service game without dropping a point. * denotes NEXT server Federer* 1-1 Montanes More booms. A breathless start on the Rod Laver Arena. And it's 1-1. Serves dominating so far. * denotes NEXT server Federer 1-0 Montanes* Feds. boom boom boom - quick service game * denotes NEXT server 0205: Yep - there goes my big trap. Peach melba indeed. Dulko loses 6-1 7-5 to Zvonareva. And the GB doubles boys Fleming and Skupski have lost the second set. That's 1-1. C'mon boys. But now it's showtime. You know who it is..... 0204: "Just got in from celebrating freedom from essays and exams- just in time for federer. perfect!" From Alex via textCongrats on your exam completion. Forehand and back-hand smash GCSEs was it? 0201: "Watching the brit boys on court 2. Eased through the first set but this one's a bit closer. It's stopped raining but there's still some dark clouds up there... ." From Matt in Melbourne via text 0153: The pink of Azarenka is wavering somewhat. Garbin is squawking like a penguin and gets a break point but blows it but at least she's battling hard. But it's all over. About an hour after her long face was moaning about the weather, she looks happy again. 6-0 6-2. And Feds up next. Dulko's on a bit of a comeback trail. She lost the opener but is 5-4 up in the second. Will I end up eating my words about peach melba? (re: her outfit) 0147: No Ozzie flag I'm afraid but Stosur is through. She'll play the winner of Serena and Suarez-Navarro. The Australian 13th seed wins 6-4 6-1 against Brianti. Bring on the Feds. My prediction - 6-3 7-6 6-2. What do you reckon? Ohhhhhh Azarenka leads 6-0 5-2 and serving for the match but Garbin has at least got two games on the board. 0143: ROGER ALERT. Stosur's closing in on a victory and Federer is to follow. When the big man's on court there'll be no more nonsense about pink. Not until he's off court anyway. I'll be focusing on that match with updates from elsewhere. Let's hope the moustache of Roger's father will be on show. My favourite piece of facial hair in the sport. Official. sssssarah on Twitter: "Can you please use your psychic powers to figure out what time Djokovic might be on court?" I've rattled my crystal ball and I'm going for 0329. Serena is on after Azarenka and then it's your boy. 0136: "Just to note, from the 1920'S until the 1940'S pink was the favoured colour for boys." From Mac in Bristol via text 0134: With Azarenka's grunting ringing in my ears, let me throw out a reminder for all your communications. get in your words and thoughts on Twitter or via text on 81111 (UK) and +44 7786200666 (worldwide). 0128: Quick round-up of scores for you beautiful people. Why are you here anyway? I love it that you are reading this but why aren't you in bed? Perhaps you're overseas? What's everybody doing? Anybody in Melbourne? Would love to know what you're all doing. Maybe you've had a cracking night - tell me and I'll tell the world. Stosur's won her first set against Brianti. Azarenka is 3-0 up in second set. That's 9-0! Those GB doubles boys won the first set. Dulko's at least making a bit of a scrap of it and is 2-2 in the second set against Zvonareva. joefriar8 on Twitter: " Murray yet to be tested like the other big names. May struggle when he comes up against one of them soon" 0116: And that's the first set for Azarenka in 32 minutes against Garbin. It's the third bagel (6-0) at this year's tournament. Serena's up after this one. Stosur's 5-4 up against Brianti. The Ozzie crowd will love that. Federer up after that match.0112: Not a great week so far for Jankovic. After losing to Bondarenko in the singles she's lined up in the doubles with Shenay Perry and they're trailing 2-6 1-2 against Mattek-Sands and Yan. Could be a while before we see that smile again on the eighth seed Serbian. Russian Zvonareva is making minced meat of Dulko. 6-1 in the first set. It's au revoir to the peach melba me thinks. (did you know the melba part in peach melba is raspberry sauce - and it's named after Australian soprano, Dame Nellie Melba. Bit of Ozzie flavour for you. 0104: Weather update. Bit clearer and all outside courts are in action. I promise this live text will not be just a deluge of dull 'is it raining or isn't it raining' updates....it's just affecting these right now. Azarenka is in full grunt mode and she's 4-0 up and cruising. The commentators have just likened her grunts to a hippo. Bit harsh. 0059: Who said the only British interest at Melbourne park is falling on Murray's shoulders? Not true. FACT. The GB flag is out and shaking its bootie because British pair Fleming and Skupski are 3-1 up against Kohlmann and Nieminen (never has two names had more Ns in their names...probably) 0053: Back to Dulko. White headband, peach melba outfit. However, the tennis is not as classy as the outfit. Ninth seed Zvonareva - with right ankle heavily strapped - is 3-1 up and serving. Promising start for last year's semi-finalist. Let that be a lesson. Save your peach melba outfits for evening wear. sean2mush on Twitter: "wow all the big names come out for the aussie open, but unfortunately for them they don't have our Cliff" 0042: Let's not forget the men. Djokovic plays Istomin and is followed by Tsonga and Haas. And let's not forget the women. Delicious Dulko - sorry, keep my professional hat on. The rather elegant Dulko takes on Zvonareva. Now I'm confused. The roof over the Hisense Arena is open. All eyes are ventured upward. Seems like those clouds are spitting again. 0038: Action finally gets going thanks to the roofs. Or is it rooves? Brianti vs Stosur. Federer and then Venus Williams following. On Hisense, Serena follows Azarenka (who incidentally looks intent on a whinge-fest today - after moaning about her hair getting wet she's now not happy with the slippery court. No pleasing some people. She's all wrapped up in pink by the way. As a side note, men in pink. Right or wrong? I'm happy to dabble occasionally. 0031: The roof is on over the Hisense Arena and play is about to get going very shortly. Garbin vs Azarenka. There's a buzz around the place. Later on in the Rod Laver Arena is Leyton Hewitt and Marcos Baghdatis. Two years ago the pair were involved in the longest match in Open history. Hewitt won 4-6 7-5 7-5 6-7 6-3 in four hours 45 minutes and finished at 0430 in the morning. Wow. 0021: Massive apologies. My slippery fingers missed out on the rain graphic. Wait for it....Nice. It's also supposed to be a little cooler in Melbourne today. I always dreamt of being a weather man. Along with being a farmer, lorry driver, footballer.....any long-term vocational aspirations you'd like to share with the world? 0019: We all like a bit of celebrity watch don't we? Faces in the crowd at Melbourne Park today are: Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives), Les Hill (Aussie actor in 'Underbelly') - yeh I hadn't heard of him either, Damien Richardson (actor in 'City Homicide'), Carrie Bickmore (TV Host on '7pm Project'), Jono Coleman (Radio personality). That's your lot. 0016: So with the rain and Feds coming up and time for some a dabble of reflection on Murray's win on Thursday, I am wanting, needing, demanding, and asking in a very polite manner, for your thoughts, opinions, predictions, fabourite tennis lookalikes and I will chuck up as much as I can. Send me your thoughts through Twitter or via text on 81111 (UK) and +44 7786200666 (worldwide). Simple. Do it. Just do it. 0014: We're also hearing that Russian 20th seed Mikhail Youzhny has pulled out - no reason as yet - which hands Poland's Lukasz Kubot a spot in the final 16 and will play the winner of Novak Djokovic and Denis Istomin. 0009: So what's coming up? First up in the Rod Laver Arena is home girl and 13th seed Sam Stosur up against Italian Alberta Brianti. Following that a lesser-known Swiss man called Federer. Answers to the name of Roger sometimes. Heard of him? The number one's playing Albert Montanes. Hold on. Before I carry on, I have to inform you there are rain drops on the camera lense and the ladies are strolling off the court. Victoria Azarenka says "it's ruining my hair". Check her out. The water is piling out of the Melbourne skies. 2359: Evening lovely people. Following the previous live antics of David Ornstein and Sam Leon, you have yours truly slipping into the hotseat - and I can reassure you it is feeling a little sweaty in here tonight - and it's more live action on day six of the Aussie Open. As I wiggle around finding my optimum sitting position and searching for my coffee I bought a few minutes ago, put the kettle on and let's get ready to go...more chat and nonsense and order of play and everything you could possibly need coming right your way....
