Bogdanovic is the British number two at 171 in the world rankings

Britons Alex Bogdanovic, James Ward and and Dan Evans reached the second round of Australian Open qualifying with straight-sets victories on Wednesday.

British number two Bogdanovic defeated Austrian Martin Slanar 6-4 6-3 before Ward beat Matt Reid of Australia 6-4 6-4 in Melbourne.

Dan Evans then saw off another Australian, Sean Berman, 7-5 6-1.

Women's qualifying begins on Thursday, with 15-year-old Laura Robson, Mel South and Naomi Cavaday in action.

Robson, who received a wild card into qualifying, will take on Australia's world number 148 Sophie Ferguson, Cavaday faces Russian Alexandra Panova and South plays American Shenay Perry.

Bogdanovic goes on to face Turkey's Marsel Ilhan in round two, while Ward's next opponent will be Ukrainian Ilya Marchenko.

"I was first up, my first match of the year, so it was good to come out and start quickly," Bogdanovic told the LTA website.

"I've won matches in qualifying before, which makes it easier, but I'm just taking it one match at a time and now looking forward to the next one."

Evans was pushed hard by 17-year-old Berman in the early stages before dominating the second set.

"I was a bit slow out there at first, a bit lethargic because of the conditions and because I'd been waiting around all day," said Evans.

"I only flew in from Auckland last night and I was tired. He was good though, he does one thing, he just hits it. I knew the first set was the key."
