Russian sixth seed Nikolay Davydenko, who beat Robin Soderling on Friday to qualify for the last four, plays Roger Federer in the first semi-final, having never beaten the world number one in 12 previous attempts
But Davydenko comes out swinging at the O2 Arena, breaking Federer, a four-time winner of the event, three times in the first set and taking it 6-2
Federer's Swiss fans are taken aback by the apparent ease with which their hero and 15-time Grand Slam champion is taken apart in the first set and can only hope Davydenko starts to tire in the second
The second set sees the world number one creep back into the match. He survives a nervy service game and wins 6-4 to take the match to a decider as the O2 Arena crowd gets noisier
The match comes to life in the third set with both at the top of their game. It's a tense affair and Federer looks favourite until he's broken by the dogged Russian who soon secures his first win over Federer in 13 attempts
Britain's recently-crowned WBA heavyweight boxing champion David Haye is in the house for the second semi between Juan Martin Del Potro and Robin Soderling
The first set goes with serve as Argentina's world number five Del Potro is unable to impose himself on his Swedish opponent who is this week's surprise package
A Del Potro double fault puts Soderling 2-0 up in the tie-break, and the Swedish world number nine goes on to win it convincingly by a 7-1 margin
The tie-break loss acts as a wake-up call for the US Open champion and he takes control of the second set, breaking Soderling in the eighth game and serving out to win it 6-3
It's a nervy and fascinating final set but Del Potro looks beaten trailing 4-2. Does the emotional Argentine have anything left in his locker?
Soderling looks strong at 4-2 up but his serve wobbles and Del Potro senses a comeback. The US Open champion breaks back and levels the match again at 4-4. The Swede is rocking
It's Del Potro's fans who go crazy at the end of the night with their man becoming the first Argentine to reach the final since David Nalbandian won the title in 2005
