Great Britain captain John Lloyd says that Liverpool did itself proud as host city of the Davis Cup defeat to Poland.

Dan Evans' loss at the Echo Arena saw GB to relegated to Group Two for the first time since 1996.

Lloyd told BBC Radio Merseyside: "I loved it. It's the first time for the Davis Cup here and you never know how a crowd is going to react.

"But I thought the crowd was fabulous. The whole environment and the Arena was magnificent and I'd love to come back."

Evans' defeat to Michal Przysiezny in the deciding rubber on Sunday condemned the home side to a 3-2 loss.

Earlier, Andy Murray beat Jerzy Janowicz 6-3 6-4 6-3 in the penultimate singles match to set up the winner-takes-all clash.

But Przysiezny's straight-sets victory saw Lloyd's side drop to the third tier of tennis' premier team competition.
