The Bryan brothers, top seeds and defending champions, are at their chest-bumping best as they kick off day nine by beating Carsten Ball and Chris Guccione to reach the men's doubles semi-finals
British hope Laura Robson makes a slow start in her girls' singles match with seventh-seed American Lauren Embree, losing the first set 6-4
But Robson hits back strongly to take the second set and shows her fighting spirit to recover from 4-1 down in the decider to seal a 4-6 6-1 6-4 win and reach round three
Kim Clijsters, playing in her first Grand Slam since the 2007 Australian Open, looks to continue her remarkable run at Flushing Meadows when she plays Li Na in the quarter-finals
The Chinese 18th seed makes an awful start to the match and is broken three times as Clijsters, the 2005 champion, takes the first set 6-2
Clijsters, who gave birth to her daughter Jada Ellie during her two years away from the WTA Tour, suffers a blip in the second set when Li fights back from 3-1 down to lead 4-3
But more mistakes by Li see the Belgian win the next three games to wrap up a 6-2 6-4 victory and a place in the semi-finals, where she will play defending champion Serena Williams
Second seed Andy Murray is next on Arthur Ashe Stadium for his fourth-round match against big-serving Croatian star Marin Cilic
Both players have their moments in a topsy-turvy first set, with Cilic saving two set points at 4-5 before coming through to take it 7-5
Things quickly get worse for Murray, last year's runner-up, who continues to make mistakes as he is broken twice at the start of the second set and trails 4-0
The Murray support team, including physio Andy Ireland, girlfriend Kim Sears, and strength and conditioning coach Matt Little look concerned as their man falls two sets behind
Murray just cannot get his game going and is broken once again at the start of the third set as Cilic continues to dominate in all areas
Any hopes of a miraculous comeback disappear when Murray falls a double-break down in the third set and his dreams of a first Grand Slam title are all but over
Cilic completes a magnificent performance to win 7-5 6-2 6-2 in two hours and eight minutes, and reach his first-ever Grand Slam quarter-final
Murray's Grand Slam hopes are over for the year and his next chance will come in Australia in January, while Cilic goes on to face sixth seed Juan Martin del Potro
Del Potro, who was beaten by Murray in the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows last year, is always in control of his match with Juan Carlos Ferrero, taking the first set 6-3
Ferrero, the 24th seed, has not been this far in the US Open since he lost to Andy Roddick in the 2003 final but he can find no way past Del Potro's serve
The 6ft 6in Argentine slams down 22 aces on his way to a straight-sets victory, and only faces four break points - none of which Ferrero can convert
Seventh seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga makes a flying start to his much-anticipated clash with 11th seed Fernando Gonzalez on Louis Armstrong Stadium, taking the first set 6-3
A fired-up Gonzalez is in good form though and roars back to take the next two sets
Gonzalez has too much firepower in the end and breaks Tsonga in the final game to close out a 3-6 6-3 7-6 6-4 victory and a place in the last eight
Defending champion Serena Williams continues her campaign in the opening match of the night session against Italy's Flavia Pennetta
Pennetta has been enjoying her best-ever year on tour and holds her own against Williams but eventually succumbs in game 10 and drops serve to lose the first set
Williams is not to be denied and arrows a forehand pass down the line to wrap up a 6-4 6-3 win and set up a semi-final clash with Clijsters
Gael Monfils takes on world number three Rafael Nadal in the final match of day nine under the lights, and it's the Frenchman who makes the better start with an early break
Nadal manages to recover the break of serve and force a tie-break but he cannot contain Monfils, who takes it 7-3
The crowd on Arthur Ashe Stadium are thrilled by the unrelenting power and pace of the contest
Nadal finds a way back into the match with three successive breaks of serve as his greater endurance levels begin to pay off
Monfils is exhausted by the punishment meted out by Nadal and from 4-3 down in the second set can only win a further four games
Nadal powers away to win 6-7 6-3 6-1 6-3 and return to the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows, with his dream of a first US Open title still very much alive
