Jankovic was playing in only her second final of the year |
World number five Jelena Jankovic got victory over world number one Dinara Safina to take the Cincinnati title. The Serb, 24, started the year ranked number one but has struggled for form and was playing her first final since taking the Marbella title in April. Jankovic was thrilled to complete a 6-4 6-2 win over the top seed and take the more significant Cincinnati crown. "It's been a while since I've been in this sort of final," she said. "I'm so thrilled to play this kind of match and beat the number one player in the world." Jankovic had only reached the final after saving four match points from 6-2 down in the final set tie-break of her semi-final against fourth seed Elena Dementieva.
