Murray says he will continue to improve as a player

Andy Murray says he will use his run to the semi-finals at Wimbledon as extra motivation ahead of the US Open.

The 22-year-old Scot suffered defeat against Andy Roddick in the last four, but said he would continue to improve.

"I'm still obviously going to be disappointed but I feel I gave it my best shot," Murray told BBC Sport.

"I've got to go away, work harder than I had before and make sure I'm in the best shape possible going into the American stretch."

The British number one told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek that he would benefit from his impressive run at Wimbledon.

Despite missing out on becoming the first Briton to reach the men's singles final since 1938, Murray praised Roddick's display.

"I came up against a guy that served incredible and played great tennis," he said.

"Sometimes you have to say that was too good and the other guy played better.

"Unfortunately that happened but I've got to work on my game and try to get better, come back next year and hopefully go one better."

And Murray said he did not feel overburdened by the expectation of a partisan home crowd during the Wimbledon fortnight.

"In the build-up to a tournament it is difficult but once it starts it doesn't really become a problem," he said.

"Once I'd got through my first match, I was a bit nervous there, I felt fine.

"I didn't feel the pressure got to me or made a huge difference to the way I played."

The US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York gets under way on 31 August.
